Classic Albums-the Band by the Band

This week's classic album segment is the second album by the legendary Canadian rock group the Band. The Band who had started out as the Hawks backing rockabilly singer Ronnie HAwkins from 1958-63, becoming the LEvon Helm Sextet, Levon and the Hawks and the Canadian Squires and eventually working with Bob Dylan when he went electric in 1965-66 which they backed up on the world tour including Australia. After Dylan's motorcycle accident in 1966 the Hawks went to Woodstock,New York where they recorded demos for what was to become the Basement Tapes. the group who were to become the Band were then writing their own material in a house called the Big Pink in West Saugerties near Woodstock which they began recording the album that was to become Music From Big Pink that was released in 1968 which went to number 30 in the USA and recieved postiive reviews as well as impressing musicians like GEorge Harrison and Eric Clapton. the group began recording the second album that was to bec

On Sunday April 22nd I went to the Southbank Cinema to see the movie Mirror Mirror. The wicked Queen(Julia Roberts) takes control of the kingdom after the KIng (sean Bean) vanishes and keeps stepdaughter Snow White (lily Collins) hidden away in the palace. Meanwhile Prince Andrew Alcott(Armie Hammer) and his valet Renbock(Robert Emmes) have been robbed by seven bandits(the dwarfs) and is atracted to Snow White which leads the jealous Queen to have her banished in the forest which Brighton(Nathan Lane) was supposed to murder snow white but doesnt and also the Queen wants to marry the Prince to solve her financial problems. Snow White is taken in by the seven dwarfs and with their help she blossoms into an brave young woman determined to get her country and birthright back and wins her Prince. it's an BRILLIANT and an Excellent film with an excellent performance by Julia Roberts as well as excellent performances by Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane, Sean Bean, Robert Emmes,

Mystery Girl was the last recorded album by American rock singer-songwriter Roy Orbison as he sadly passed away from an heart atack on December 6th 1988. It was at this time that Roy Orbsion's career was starting to pick up again in the late 80's as after the huge success he had back in the 60's with only the Lonley, Crying,Running Scared, Working for the Man, Pretty Woman,In Dreams, Blue Bayou, It's Over and many others amd went through an decline in his career from mid-late 60's through the 70's as well as going through personal tragedies with the deaths of his wife Claudette in 1966 and 2 of his sons Anthony and Roy jr in a fire in 1968 while Roy was in ENgland on tour and by about 1987 his career was starting to revive as he released "In Dreams The Greatest Hits" which he re-recorded his hits as well as recording an song called Life Fades Away which was featured in the movie Less Than Zero that starred Andrew McCarthy and Robert Downey Jr as well

ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance

On Tuesday I went to Carindale Cinema with my Friend Matthew to see the movie Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance which it's the sequel to Ghost Rider that was released in 2007. Johnny Blaze/the Ghost Rider(Nicolas Cage who reprises his role in this Film) who lives in an abandoned village in isolaton somewhere in europe is asked by an monk called Moreau(Idris Elba) to help protect an boy named Danny(Fergus Riordan) and his mother Nadya(Violante Placido) from Roarke(Ciaran Hindes) and his mercenaries who has plans for Danny and at first Johnny refuses but eventually he does so along with Moreau and Nandya go on to the sanctuary to protect and it leads to intersting adventures. This sort of movie is not my cup of tea but it's pretty good with good acting by Nicolas Cage,Isris Elba, Fergus Riordan, Violante Placido, Ciaran Hindes, Anthony Lambert,Johnny Withworth who plays Ray Carrigan/Blackout the baddies and others. effects are good and I did'nt understand this film but I am sur

the Avengers show @ Easts Leagues Club Friday April 13th

Last Friday April 13th I went to Easts Leagues CLub to see the Brisbane rock group the Avengers which it was my 5th time seeing them as well as my 3rd time so far this year. The show started at 7.30pm which they did 4 FANTASTIC sets of songs from the 50's,60's,70's,80's up to now and mostly the same songs they did at Easts on March 30th but they did do some an few different songs too which was great. I saw my Facebook friend Sue there which it was nice to see her again having had seen there on the 30th of March as well. The show finished @ 11.30pm which it was an FANTASTIC show and everyone had an great time as well as I did and i said hi to the guys after the show which I asked Graham about the original lead singer which he said he is still around but could'nt keep up with the work and also they will be back at Easts Leagues CLub on Saturday may 19th which i will be going to that one. No Plans is the latest album by legendary Australian rock band Cold Chisel which it's their first album in 14 years since the Last Wave Of Summer album back in 1998 and it was recorded at Studios 301 in Sydney. This album was produced by Kevin Shirley who also mixed it also as well as working with acts like Aerosmith,the ANgels,Tina Arena,the Screaming Jets, Silverchair, Rush, the Black Crowes and others and Simon Todkill was the engineer. This Weeks classic album segment is an Australian album from the 60's which it was the 2nd and last studio album for Australian rock group from Adelaide The Twilights and the album is called Once Upon A TWilight. the group who had hits in 1966 and 1967 with Needle In A Haystack, What's Wrong with the way I live, 9.50, Cathy Come Home, Young Girl and many others and who went to England as the result of them winning the Hoadleys Battle of the sounds to try to have an crack internationally but did'nt even though they recorded at Abbey Road Studios where they recorded What's Wrong With the Way I Live, 9.50 and Young Girl recorded this album at Armstrong Studios in Melbourne with David Mackay who had produced the group's first album in 1966 was the producer, roger savage who had worked with the rolling stones, Alan Day and Phillip Webster were the engineers, Graham macLean did the cover design and John Hawker did the orchestrations. the album was released in June 1968 w

LAst Saturday April 7th I went to Carina Leagues CLub to see the Darren J ray BAnd which it was my second time seeing the Darren J Ray Band as it was my 15th time seeing Darren and also it's my second time seeing Darren live this year. The show started at 7.3opm with the quartet line up which featured Kaitlyn and did 4 FANTASTIC sets doing songs from the 50's,60's,70's,80's up to now and during one of the sets did the chicken dance which i did it by myself and as well in the other set KAitlyn walk through the crowds giving Easter Eggs as well as wearing an hat in one set and the band put on ELvis sideburnsdoing an few ELvis songs as well. On Saturday March 31st I went to Morningside Services Club to see the Abba tribute show called ABBALIVE an group who play arounds Brisbane,Gold Coast,Sunshine coast,North Queensland and Northern NSw and It was the first time I have seen them which i have heard about them but never saw them till Saturday as well as knowing one of the members of the group which it's Nicole who also sings with Darren J Ray and the Love Bugs in the Fabulous Sounds of the 60's show.
