The Sapphires

On Sunday AUgust 26th I went to the South Bank Cinema with the Friendship group to see the movie the Sapphires. Two Sisters Gail(Deborah Mailman) and Cynthia(Miranda Tapsell) enter an talent contest at an local pub which the younger sister Julie(Jessica Mauboy) is considered too young by their parents but eventually joins them which they don't win the award and they meet an MC drunken Irish guy named Dave(Chris O'Dowd)who encourages them to do soul music instead of country. there is an ad for entertainers to perform in Vietnam which they are joined by an child of the stolen generation Kay(Shari Stebbens) which they do the audition and off to Vietnam. it's an excellent and an BRILLIANT movie with great acting by Jessica Mauboy, Deborah Mailman, Miranda Tapsell, Shari Stebbens and Chris O'Dowd with great music and an excellent story with funny, sad and touching moments. it is inspired by an true story as an musical and it raises questions like vietnam War as well as th

Songs Of the Eagles Tribute show

On Saturday August 25th I went to Carina Leagues Club to see an Eagles tribute show called SOngs of the Eagles show. The show started at around 7.45pm with an singer-guitarist doing an solo set doing classic songs from the 60's-90's which he was really good and singing really well. there was an interval and then around 8.45pm the Songs Of the Eagles came on stage which it was an 3 piece line up and for the next 2 and an bit hours they would do 2 excellent sets doing the classic Eagles stuff as well as the Don henley hit Boys Of Summer which the musicians Dave Grey on Drums was excellent and so was Tam who plays with another Eagles tribute show in Queensland called The Eagels Band as well as the guitarist/singer who had the solo set early in the show. the show lasted until after 11pm and the band went on to play other stuff but i went home. the show was excellent as well as everyone were having an great time as well as singing along to the songs and the band were excellent too

This week's classic album segment we are looking at the 1976 album by Australian group Ol'55. Ol'55 began as an group called Fanis doing covers in 1972 in Sutherland, Sydney and became the name after the Eagles song Ol'55 written bY Tom Waits and were managed by future Australian music historian Glenn A Baker. They released their first single with the Paul Anka song Diana in September 1975 which was an Australia top 100 hit and in january 1976 began recording @ Trafalgar Studios in Sydney the album that was to become Take it Greazy. Last Night August 18th I went to Mt Gravatt Bowls Club to See the Wickety wak guys doing the Rock n Roll Tribute show which it's my 4th time seeing them as well as my 2nd time seeing them this year as I saw the Dooley Rocks Cooley show @ Twin Towns during Cooly Rocks On on Sunday june 10th.Dad took me to the Mt Gravatt Bowls Club which I got there before 6pm as I had been doing ten pin Bowling and went to a friend's birthday party @ Bulimba Bowls CLub in the afternoon. In November legendary Australian singer from the 70's John Paul Young is doing an tour of Queensland. John Paul Young known for hits like Pasadena, Yesterday's Hero, I hate the Music, Standing In the Rain, Love Is In the Air, The Love Game and many others will be playing 2 shows in Queensland and will do many of his hits from the 70's which i'm sure it will bring back memories for those who grew up in the 70's watching countdown. Classic Albums- Graceland by Paul Simon

This week classic album segment is the 1986 album by legendary American singer-songwriter Paul Simon. After the disappointing performance of his 1983 album Hearts and Bones Paul Simon's music career was it's lowest ebb and in late 1984 while driving in his car in the state of frustration he was listening to a cassette of instrumental by the Boyoyo Boys called Gumboots which later he wrote lyrics to sing over a re-recording of the song that was to become of the album that was to become known as Graceland. Paul went to South Africa in an attempt to embrace the culture as well as finding the most comfortable environment to record the album and the recordings of the album began @ Ovation Studios in Johannesburg South Africa in February 1985 which lasted until April 1986 with the overdubbing and additional recordings done at the Hit factory in New York, Abbey Road in London and Amigo Studios in los Angeles. The album was released on August 12th 1986 which it went to no 3 in the USA

On Sunday August 5th I went to the Greazefest Festival at the Rocklea Showgrounds as it was my 5th time going to the Festival. I got to Greazefest around 10am as I caught an bus from Cannon Hill to SOuth Bank and caught an train @ 9.40am to Rocklea which I walked to the showgrounds from the station. The first band I saw were Regular gonzalez which it was my second time seeing them as I saw them @ Hot ROd Twilight show at the ROcklea Showgrounds on Sunday March 18th this year and they were FANTASTIC. the second band I saw were Paulie and His Crazy rhythm Boys which they were just FANTASTIC too with Dan(Dan and the Dualtones) and Jon FLynn playing with him as well as doing an great set of songs including Pretend and True Love Baby. I bought 2 vinyl albums Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs I got A Woman from 1968 which it was actually an reissue of an album they did in 1966 called Don't You Dig This Kind Of Beat and the Delltones with the Best of the Delltones from 196
