Classic Albums- the Doors the Doors

For this week's classic segment let's have an look at the 1967 debut album by legendary American rock group the Doors called the Doors. the group were formed in 1965 in Los Angeles and had played @ the London Fog and the Whiskey Au Go Go which it was where Jac Holzman from Elektra Records spotted them along with record producer Paul A Rothchild who saw the 2 sets and were signed with the label on August 18th 1966. The recording of the debut album the Doors began @ Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood on August 24th 1966 which lasted an week later on August 31st and on january 4th 1967 the album was released which it went to number 2 in the USA which it went multi platinum but did not chart in england until 1991 due to the success of the movie that was directed by Oliver Stone that the album went to no 43 there. It was produced by Paul Rothchild who would produced the group's albums until 1970 with Morrison Hotel and Audio engineer was Bruce Botnick who would worked them until 1971 and from the album it had singles Break On Through and the breakthrough single Light My Fire which was an number 1 hit in the USA and no 49 in the UK but was reissued in 1991 which eventually went to number 7 there. It is an great album which holds up very well with great songs which most were written by the group that still endures to this day and an great sound too and besides from Light My Fire which this version is the 7 minute one not the single version that was great songs which included 2 covers Alabama Song(whiskey Bar) and Back Door Man and other original songs like Soul Kitchen, The Crystal Ship etc and also both Break On Through and the End were censored due to certain words that were not right but since 1999 onwards the words that were edited were restored to it's right place. Besides from the group additional musicians who played on the album were Larry Knechtel on bass guitar and Paul rothchild did the background vocals. This album is one the greatest albums ever made which Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 42 as part of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and with the sad passing this week of keyboard player Ray Manzarek I thought it would be appropriate to do this dedicated to his memory which the music will live on.
