Best Of BAndstand volume 4 1967-70

Let's have a look at the Best Of Bandstand Volume 4 on DVD 1967-70. On this DVD of this legendary Australian music show it has 17 episodes between 1967 and 1970 and it includes appearances of people like Bev Harrell, Col Joye, Judy Stone, Little Pattie, Rim D Paul, Billy THorpe, Dinah Lee, Bryan Davies, Laurel Lea as well as early appearances of people like Johnny Farnham, Olivia Newton John, Russell MOrris, Colleen Hewett, Ted Mulry, Hans Poulsen, Don Spencer, Alison Durbin and others as well as a Vietnam Request Special from 1968 as well as Col Joye's Train Tour Of North Queensland and international acts including Neil Sedaka,The Everly Brothers, Frankie Avalon, Roger Whittaker and many others. It is a FANTASTIC, AWESOME and a BRILLIANT DVD with AMAZING stuff on it which the picture quality looks great and it is great to see the acts on it who were starting out at the time as well as the regular acts who were doing appearances on it too. Linda Ronstadt Simple Dreams A Musical Memoir

Simple Dreams A Musical Memoir is the autobiography of legendary American singer Linda Ronstadt. In this book she talks about her upbringing in Tucson Arizona, her childhood having been filled with everything from Gilbert and Sullivan to Mexican folk music to jazz and opera, began performing with her siblings for anyone who would listen, moved to Los Angeles in the mid-60's, had success with the Stone Poneys with the hit Different Drum, going to a solo career which she would have great success in the 70's, having the band who would become the Eagles, working with people like Dolly Parton,Emmylou Harris, Aaron Neville, Neil Young etc, going into Broadway and Theater and and many others. It is a excellent and a BRILLIANT book with great stories told by Linda and I enjoyed it very much. It is sad to hear that she is not well as she has got Parkinson's Disease but there is great news that she is nominated for a induction into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame for 2014 which I hope

On the Move show @ Coorparoo RSL Club

ON Saturday October 26th I went to the Coorparoo RSL Club to see the group On the Move which it was my 3rd time seeing them and I had not seen them live since Saturday March 5th 2011 @ Carina Leagues CLub as well as it was my very first time seeing a show there . Dad took me to the club which I had planned to have dinner there and for dinner had Roast Pork and veges as well as for desert Black Forest cake. The show started @ 7pm and for the next 4 hours the group did a mixture of rock n roll and country music doing stuff from Elvis Presley,Buddy Holly, the Bellamy Brothers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Chuck Berry, Hank Williams and many others and some of the people did the dancing like rock n roll waltz, lime dancing and others and Michael joined in the dancing during the sets as well as during the break after the 2nd set I spoke with Dave and Marilyn and also in the last break before the last set Dave gave a free CD of their's called Rockin which was good of him to do that. LAst Saturday October 19th I went to the Balmoral Cinema where I saw the movie DIana. It's 1995 and Princess Diana (Naomi Watts)who has been through the separation from Prince Charles the Prince Of Wales meets an Doctor from Pakistan named Dr Hasnat Khan(Naveen Andrews) who is a heart surgeon and they start going out which she could found someone who could see beyond the exterior to the vulnerable and complex woman underneath and also it was during the relationship that Diana would accomplish some of her most rewarding and and successful humanitarian work. It is a excellent movie with a top performance by Naomi Watts as well as a excellent performance by Naveen Andrews and it's directed by Oliver Hirscbiegel. This movie focuses on the last 2 years of Diana's life and it is amazing to know that it is 16 years since she passed but has left a lasting legacy for what she did. Americana is a autobiography of legendary British singer-songwriter and founding member of legendary British 60's rock group the Kinks Ray Davies. In this book Ray talks about his fascination Of America with it's movies, music and culture of freedom which fed his imagination, the first American trip in 1965 which they were banned from touring there for 4 years until 1969, touring there eventually touring from 1969 throughout the 70's,80's and 90's, his feelings of love,confusion and fascination, him being shot during a botched robbery in New Orleans in 2004 and many others. It's a EXCELLENT and a BRILLIANT book with great stories with candour,humour and wit Ray takes us on a road trip through his life and career. it will be 50 years next when the Kinks came on the scene with You Really Got ME and the group are one of the influential acts in the history of rock n roll and also is Ray is still touring and still recording after all these days. Classic ALbums- Towards the Blues Chain

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1971 album by the legendary Australian blues rock band Chain called Towards the Blues. The album was recorded @ TCS Sound Studios in Melbourne in April 1971 which lasted 3 days and the line-up of Chain that was to become the well known line-up that recorded this album were Matt Taylor on lead vocals and harmonica who joined them in September 1970, Phil Manning on lead guitar, Barry Sullivan on bass and Barry Harvey on drums. The album was released in September 1971 on the Infinty label that was part of Festival at that time which went to number 6 on the Australian charts which stayed in the Top 40 for 4 months and by the time the album came out they had 2 hit singles Black and Blue and Judgement. The album was produced by John Sayers and Chain which John was also the engineer and Ian McCausland did the cover design and also besides from the hit single Judgement as well as the album version of Black and Blue there

The Early Years their Complete Studio Recordings 1959-1966 Expanded Edition is the 6 CD Set of the legendary British instrumental rock group the Shadows. This CD set which was released back in 1991 has Expanded with the addition of 31 tracks which was recorded in Mono but never been released on CD and it has the singles, B-sides, EP tracks and album tracks that they recorded from 1959 up to 1966 which were recorded in stereo with the first 7 tracks from 1959 recorded in mono. It is AWESOME,ROCKIN and BRILLIANT with great songs that still endures to this day and Rob Bradford did the research , new compilation and additional notes as well as Tim Chackfield doing the co ordination, Peter Mew did the original and additional transfers and mastering and James Clarke did the audio assistance. After All These Years is the joint autobiography of legendary Irish singing duo Foster and Allen. In this book both Mick Foster and Tony Allen talk about their growing up in Ireland in the 50's and 60's, the days of horse drawn ploughs, tiny village schools,thatched roofs and candlelit cottages as well as ceilidh dances and fleadhs that influenced Mick and Tony, joined forces in 1975 which they began playing local music circuits around Ireland and the UK, began recording in 1976 which their first single was The Rambles Of Spring but did not get a chart hit until A Bunch Of Thyme in 1979 which was number 1 in Ireland but was not a hit in the UK until 1982 when it went to number 18, having other successful hits including Maggie, After All These Years, Old Flames etc and many others. Rock n Roll Spectacular 2013

On Sunday I went to Kedron Wavell Services Club for the Rock n Roll Spectacular show which it is to raise money for the Endeavour Foundation and it was my 7th time seeing the show as I was not @ Last year's show as I was on holidays in Melbourne so i had seen that show since Sunday November 6th 2011. I caught the bus to the city and another bus to Chermside which I walked to kedron Wavell and also had nachos for lunch as well as a Sundae for desert. The show started @ 12pm with the first act being Wally and the Gators doing a set of classic rock n roll songs which a lady named Suzie performed with them on a couple of songs, then the next act was Johnny Gray a legendary Brisbane singer who has been around since the 60's as he performed with the G-Men and the Flamingoes which included Bob Blight of the Sonics, Darryl Wright of the Dominoes and Jim Cerenzo of the Blue JAys and did a FANTASTIC set doing classic rock n roll stuff which Wally and the Gators backed him up and there

Classic Albums-Beggars Banquet The Rolling Stones

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1968 album by legendary British rock group the Rolling Stones called Beggars Banquet. The recording of the album began @ Olympic Studios in London on March 17th 1968 and it lasted until July 25th 1968. The album was released on December 6th 1968 which it went to number 3 in the UK and number 5 in the USA which eventually went Platinum and it was produced by Jimmy Miller who had produced both Traffic and Spooky Tooth(well Known British groups at that time) as well as co writing the song I'm A Man for the Spencer Davis Group and also it began the collaboration between him and the Stones which would last until 1973 with Goats Head Soup. From this album it had the one hit single Street Fighting Man which went to number 48 in the USA and no 21 in the UK when it was released in 1971 and there are other great tracks including Sympathy FOr the Devil, Prodigal Son a Robert Wilkins song , Salt Of The Earth, No Expectat

Forever the Tourist Daryl Braithwaite

Forever The Tourist is the new mini album by legendary Australian singer Daryl Braithwaite. This mini album is released through Sony which Daryl has just signed with them again as he has not recorded with the since the 90's and it was on that label he had 2 successful hit album Edge and Rise. This album has 8 tracks all original songs which 6 are written by Daryl and 2 by Oliver Jones who also produced the mini album with Ricki Rae did the mixing and Leon Zervos did the mastering. It is a AWESOME and a BRILLIANT album with 8 AWESOME tracks and BRILLIANT singing by Daryl who sings just a great on this album as well as singing just as better as he has ever done. I have seen him singing some of the songs on stage when I've seen him @ Kedron Wavell on November 11th 2011 and September 6th 2013 and he is still going strong after more than 40 years when he came on the scene with Sherbet which they had great success and after the group broke up going to a successful solo career and

Brandi and the Badcats show @ Carina Leagues Club

On Saturday October 5th I went to see Brandi and the Badcats which it was my 14th time seeing them and had not since them live since November 24th last year @ Carina Leagues Club when Brandi did the Suzi Quatro Tribute show. Dad took me to the Club and I had Tandoori Chicken,chips and salad for dinner as well as having Ice Cream for desert. The show started @ 8.07pm and for the next 3 hours and 11 minutes the band did 4 sets of classic rockabilly songs as well as original songs which the line up was a trio line-up and also people were enjoying themselves which was great to see. the show finished @ 11.18pm as people had gone home and I was the only one there so the show ended early which was a bit disappointing but then what can you do. Thanked Brandi and Reno which I asked them about next year's Cooly Rocks On which they said they hope as well as asking about the gigs as they don't much gigs and Reno told me that they were told to play at a certain volume as if they went pass

Classic Albums- Gentle On My Mind Glen Campbell

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1967 album by legendary American country singer Glen Campbell called Gentle on My Mind. The recording of the album was at Capitol Recording Studios in Hollywood, California from May 17th-July 13th 1967 and it was released in August 1967 which it went to number 5 in the USA pop album charts where it stayed there for 75 weeks and number 1 on the USA country album charts where it stayed in the charts for 88 weeks and also number 3 in Canada which the album went Platinum. The album was produced by Al De Lory who produced Glen's album before this one called Burning Bridges and would produce Glen's albums up to 1972 and the title track was the only hit single from that album which went to number 66 in the USA pop charts and no 30 in the US country charts but when it was released in 1968 it went to number 39 in the pop charts again and also the songs won 2 Grammy awards which were Best Country Song and Best countr

Nothin To Lose the Making Of KISS is the biography of the legendary American rock group KISS and it is written by founding members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley and Ken Sharp. In this book it talks the beginning of KISS when Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley met in 1970 which they played in a band called Wicked Lester who had been called Rainbow which they would record for Epic but nothing happened and the band would split in 1972, Paul and Gene came across an ad in the East Coast version of Rolling Stone magazine which was done by drummer Peter Criss who had played in Lips and Chelsea , going into the hard rock style as well as getting into the make up which had inspired by Alice Cooper and Slade, Ace Frehley joined in 1973, becoming the name KISS which Paul Stanley came up with the name, played their very first gig @ the Coventry January 30th 1973, began recording for Casablanca in that year in 1973, going on tour in 1974 and the rest is rock n roll history and it also has interviews

The AVengers show @ East Leagues Club

On Saturday September 28th I went to Easts Leagues Club to see the Avengers which it was my 18th time seeing them as well as my 9th time this year seeing them. Dad took me to the club which I arrived at about 6.30pm as I had dinner which I had Nachos and for desert had ice cream and at the cafe just before having dinner I saw Roger the guitarist. The show started @ 7.30pm and for the next 4 hours they did 4 sets of great rock and pop songs by Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The BEatles, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Dragon, Bee Gees, Queen, The Searchers, Creedence Clearwater Revival and many others and the line up of the group at the moment is with Glenn on guitar as Graeme is still on his holidays and also at the show i saw a friend of Mum and Dad's that I've known since I was 9 named Alicia which she is well as I had not seen her for a while and after the first set finished i got a photo with her. Kings Of COuntry Rock show @ Greenslopes Bowls Club

On Friday September 27th 2013 I went to the Greenslopes Bowls Club to see the tribute show the Kings of Country Rock show which it's a tribute show to both legendary American groups the Eagles and Creedence Clearwater Revival and it was my first time seeing the show which I had heard about it but had never seen it until that Friday. Dad took me to the Bowls CLub, had steak,chips and salad for dinner which tasted very nice and went inside to wait which I used my mobile and did some writing to fill in the time. The show started at about 8.20pm with the first band doing the Eagles which they did a set doing the classic Eagles songs which the band had 6 guys and they sounded excellent and there was a interval which I had a drink of water. Then the Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band came on stage and did the classic Creedence hits with Peter Vandersteen doing the lead vocals with Peter Timms on drums, Hawakan Manderstedt on Bass and Grant Daniell on guitar.
