On New Years Eve this year the Fabulous Sounds Of the 60's show led Darren J Ray and the Love Bugs is playing @ Wynnum Manly Leagues Club which the show will start @ 8.30pm and the cost is the $25.00. This Sunday December 1st legendary Australian singer Issi Dye will be performing @ the Redlands Sporting Club in Wellington Point on Anson Road and the show will start @ 1pm. If you would like to see Issi go and see him which he puts on a great show doing classic rock n roll stuff of the 50's and 60's and you shall enjoy it.

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1967 album by British rock group Cream called Disraeli Gears which it was their 2nd album. The recording of the album was at Atlantic Studios in New York between May 11th and 15th 1967 where Cream had been playing 9 shows @ the Murray the K show at the RKO Theater in New York and it was released on November 10th 1967 which it went to number 5 in the UK, number 1 in Finland and Australia,number 4 in the USA,number 10 in Canada and number 16 in Sweden. It was produced by Felix Pappalardi who would become a member of rock group Mountain as well as co writing 2 tracks including Strange Brew, Tom Dowd did the engineering, Martin Sharp did the cover art on the album and Robert Whittaker who took the photos of the Beatles as well as the covers on some of the albums at that time and from the album had the hit singles Sunshine Of Your Love and Strange Brew. It is a great album with great songs that still endures to this day

Eminent Hipsters is the autobiography of legendary American musician as well as founding member of legendary American group Steely Dan Donald Fagen. In this book he talks about his growing up years in New Jersey as well as getting into music including jazz as well as going to Manhattan jazz clubs where he would see jazz greats including jazz greats Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and many others, going to Bard College a progressive university up the Hudson River from new York City where he would meet Walter Becker with whom they would form Steely Dan, the recent cross country tour he did with Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs and many others. it is a excellent and a impressive book with excellent told by Donald and it was a enjoyable read. Steely Dan are still touring the world as well as Donald doing solo work too. This book is a must for Steely Dan fans as well as fans of 70's music and I am giving it 4 stars which it's in the shops now so do yourself a favour and BUY IT.

On Sunday January 19th 2014 Australian singer Vicky O"Keefe who is also the daughter of legendary Australian rocker Johnny O"Keefe will be playing @ Kedron Wavell Services Club in Chermside and she will be doing a tribute show to her father which she will performing her father's famous hits. The show will start @ 2pm and if you would like to see this show go and see it which you will enjoy it and I'm sure it will bring back memories for people who grew up in the 50's, 60's and 70's seeing Johnny O'Keefe live as well as watching him on his TV shows and buying his records and for those who were not born in that era but like the music of it you will enjoy the experience of seeing it.

On Friday November 15th I went to Kedron Wavell Services Club to see Australian singer Normie Rowe which it was my 12th time seeing him live as well as my second time this year as the first was @ Coolangatta Tweed Golf Club on Saturday June 8th during Cooly Rocks on. I caught the bus to Chermside which I walked to Kedron Wavell, had Nachos for dinner , bought tickets for nearly Neil a tribute show to neil Diamond, Vicky O'Keefe and Dennis Locorriere of Dr Hook and went up to the Blue Pacific Room. The show started @ 8.30pm with Normie Rowe coming out on stage which he was backed up by the Smokin Crawdads a Brisbane group and for the next 2 and a half hours Normie did 2 sets of songs including his hits from the 60's, songs from the Missing In Action album and classic rock songs and also got everyone to sing along as well as having a great sense of humor. The show finished before 11pm which Normie had CD's on sale after the show that had 3 of his albums from the 60's,

The recording of that album was held at the Record Plant in Sausalito California from july until September 1984 and it was released on January 15th 1985 which it went to number 1 in the USA on March 23rd where it stayed for 1 week, number 1 in Sweden and Norway, no 48 in the UK, Number 7 in the US Country charts, number 13 in New Zealand and number 2 in both Austria and Canada. It was produced by John Fogerty himself who also did the instruments, vocals and arrangements and from that album it had 3 hit singles the title track, the Old Man Down The Road and Rock n Roll Girls. This DVD was recorded at the Sydney Opera House during his Still Reelin and A Rockin Australian tour in February this year and on this DVD he performs his classic hits as well as songs from his new album that is out now called the Fabulous Rock N Roll Songbook and also there is a bonus that has the Behind The Scenes tour Featurette. The Fabulous Rock'N'Roll Songbook is the new album by legendary British singer Cliff Richard. This album was recorded in Nashville Tennessee at the Blackbird Studio and the Parlor early this year and it is his tribute to the early rock n roll era of acts like Elvis Presley,Buddy Holly,The Everly brothers,Chuck Berry and others. It is a AWESOME,ROCKIN and a BRILLIANT album which it rocks too and Cliff just sounds so great on this album which he is still in great voice at the age of 73 and also the songs on it are AWESOME and ROCKIN too. In the years between 1962-65 The Beatles did no less than 275 performances on the BBC doing their well known songs as well as rock n roll stuff which they would do 88 different songs on national radio as some were recorded many times and some were recorded once and the stuff they did at the BBC is out on CD again as there was a Live At The BBC CD that was released in 1994 which this CD is called On Air Live AT the BBC Volume 2. On this double CD it has the well know songs as well as classic rock n roll stuff which 10 songs on the album were never recorded by the group for EMI in the 60's which 2 of them are released for the 1st time and also has 4 candid interviews as well as the lively banter too. Rod Laver A Memoir is the autobiography of legendary Australian Tennis player Rod Laver. In this book he talks about his upbringing in Rockhampton Queensland,began playing in 1956 which would last for 20 years as he go on the achieve more than 200 career titles including 2 Grand Slams in 1962 and 1969, joining the pro circuit,having a stroke in 1998 which he eventually recovered, his wife of 46 years Mary who sadly passed away last year and many others. It is a BRILLIANT book with great stories told by Rod which he talks about the great players and matches he was involved in and i enjoyed it very much which it's a great insight,warm and a fascinating story of a great Australian sporting icon. Rod Laver lives in America now but he is still fondly remembered in the history of Australian sports and he has been back recently for the signings of this book. Normie The Normie Rowe Story is the autobiography of legendary Australian singer Normie Rowe. In this book Normie talks about his upbringing in Melbourne, began performing at age 12 playing the dances around Melbourne, began recording for the Sunshine label in 1965 which he would have his very first hit with It Ain't Necessarily So as he would achieve a string of top 10 hits throughout the mid 60's including the number 1 double sided hit Que Sera Sera/Shakin All Over in 1965 as it was the biggest selling single in Australia for that year and was at that one of Australia's biggest musical talents, got drafted in the army in 1968 which he was shipped out to Vietnam, his pop career was over when he came back from Vietnam, the sad loss of his son Adam, doing acting and many others. For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the debut album of American rock group the Velvet Underground in 1967 called the Velvet Underground and Nico. The recordings of the album were @ Scepter Studios in NEw York City in April 1966, T.T.G Studios in Hollywood California in May 1966 and Mayfair Studios in New York in November 1966 and it was released on March 12th 1967 on the Verve label which went to number 171 in the USA. The producer on this album was Andy Warhol with Tom Wilson who produced the track Sunday Morning and Andy also did the cover album of the Banana Peel. The album was not a success which many radio stations refused to play it, magazines refused to carry advertisements for it and the record label Verve who failed to promote and distribute the album as well as many of the songs were too daring for commercial radio to play it as Underground radio had just started at that time but yet this album is one of the great albums ever made.
