Classic Albums-Matchbook Ian Moss

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1989 album Matchbook which was the debut album for guitarist and singer as well as ex Cold Chisel member Ian Moss. this album was recorded at Rhinoceros Recordings in Sydney and Oceanway Studios in Los Angeles California. Matchbook was released in August 1989 which it went to number 1 in Australia where it stayed for 3 weeks and it was Top 20 in New Zealand and it was produced by Ian Moss himself and Chris Lord-Alge who also did the engineering and mixing and assistant engineers were Brendan Morley and Jeff Lord-Alge and also the 6 of the tracks were written by ex Cold Chisel member Don Walker and others were by Ian himself. This album won 5 awards at the ARIAS that were Album Of the Year, Best Male Artist, Breakthrough-Artist Album, Single Of the Year and Breakthrough Artist-Single for Tucker's Daughter and it was from this album it had 4 hit singles Tuckers Daughter,Telephone Booth, Out Of the Fire and Mr Rai

Croz David Crosby

Croz is the new solo album by legendary American singer-songwriter David Crosby. This album was recorded at the Bamboom Room in Altenda California, Groove Masters in Santa Monica California, Radio Hill Recorders in Los Angeles California and Rumor Mill Recording Santa Ynez California and mastered by Doug Sax and Robert Hadley at the Mastering Lab in Ojali California. It is a excellent album with excellent songs which includes What's Broken, Time I Have, Slice Of Time and many others and also excellent singing by David Crosby who still sound great at age 72 which as most of you know he is under going heart surgery as he was supposed to do a solo tour but won't happen until March, some in April and July. This album has received positive reviews and it has gone into the top 40 in the USA (number 36) which it's his first top 40 album since the 1971 album If I Could Only Remember My Name(his debut solo album) when it went to number 12 and this was his first solo album since 19

Look Wot I Dun by Don Powell

Look Wot I dun is the autobiography of British drummer and founding member of the British rock group Slade Don Powell. In this book he talks about his upbringing in Bilston, Staffordshire in central England, joining the boy scouts which it was where he got into playing drums, played in his first band called the Vendors who then became the N Betweens then the Ambrose Slade and eventually Slade, began having successful hits in 1971 with Get DOwn and Get With It as they would go on to have a lot of successful hits throughout the 70's, the tragic car crash on July 4th 1973 which he was seriously injured as he suffered from short term memory loss which he still has to this day but his long term is unaffected and his girlfriend was killed, problems with alcohol, financial problems and many others. It is a FANTASTIC and a BRILLIANT book with great stories told by Don honestly and it is a great read. This book is co written with Danish author Lise Lyng Falkenberg who is a friend of D

Bobby Rydell show @ Kedron Wavell February 15th 2014

Last night (Saturday February 15th) I went to Kedron Wavell Services Club for the 2nd night in a row to see legendary American singer Bobby Rydell which it was my 3rd time seeing him. I caught the bus from Cannon Hill to chermside @ 5.30pm, walk to Kedron Wavell, went to the Cafe, Had Nachos for dinner, had chocolate Sundae for desert, drank a glass of coke, bought a ticket to see Stevie The Life and Music of Stevie Wright and the Easybeats, went inside the Blue Pacific room, read book and had a drink of water. The show started at about 8.30pm with the Melbourne rock group the All Stars come on stage and they did a 40 minute set doing classic rock n roll songs written by people like Leiber and Stoller, Neil Sedaka, Otis Blackwell and others as well as 2 Shadows instrumentals which they did a great set with great guitar playing by Barry Roy, excellent sax playing by Graeme Broomfield and excellent singing by each of the members including Ian B Allen. The Searchers @ Kedron Wavell February 14th 2014

Friday February 14th I went to Kedron Wavell to see legendary British 60's rock group the Searchers which it was my 9th time seeing them live. I caught the bus to Chermside which left cannon Hill at 6pm and walk to Kedron Wavell. I had nachos for dinner, had chocolate Sundae for desert where I bumped in to Pam and my old friend from Crossroads Brett Jones, bought a ticket to see legendary Australian 80's group the Eurogliders on July 26th, went inside and read book while I was waiting as well as using mobile. The show started @ 8.30pm and for the 2 hours and 15 minutes the Searchers did 2 sets which they did the classic hits, some of the album tracks, some rarities including Solitiare and other classic songs including Peggy Sue with John McNally on lead vocals, Frank Allen told stories on stage about the history including working with the Supremes,the Ronettes, the Temptations, as well as their first Australian tour, recording some of the songs and others as well as having gr

On Tuesday February 11th I went to the QPAC Concert Hall to see legendary British rock group the Hollies which it was my first time seeing them as I have always wanted to see them and I had wanted to see them last year but missed out so i was determined not to miss out so I bought my ticket a moth ago on January 2nd and also I love the music of the Hollies which it's great music with a great sound,great harmonies and great songs.It was not my first time seeing Hollies members as on Friday June 23rd 2000 I went to see original bass player Eric Haydock with his band Eric Haydock's Hollies at Kedron Wavell Services Club which they were very good. I caught the bus to QPAC which I arrived @ about 6.40pm, bought the program and an live CD called We Got the Tunes, had a bottle of water and went inside. Classic Albums-Machine Head Deep Purple

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1972 album Machine Head by legendary British hard rock band Deep Purple. The recording of the album was held in Montreux Switzerland at the Grand Hotel in a empty corridor between december 6th-21st 1971 using the Rolling Stones mobile studio and they initially were going to record at the Casino but due to a fire during Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention's performance which was cause by a man who fired a flare gun into the ceiling which would inspired one of the tracks on this album Smoke On The Water. The album was released May 1972 which it went to number 1 in the UK where it stayed for 3 weeks where it stayed in the top 40 for 20 weeks,Australia where it stayed there for 2 weeks, Canada, Germany, Austria, Denmark,France and Yugoslavia and number 7 in the USA where it would stayed in the charts for 2 years and it was produced by the band themselves with the cover design done by Roger Glover and John Cole

Status Quo Still Doin It Bob Young ,Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi

Still Doin It is a book that has been put together by Status Quo members Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt and Bob Young who has been an songwriter for the group as well as an unofficial 5th member of the group as well. In this book it has professional and personal photos of the group as well as memorabilia of the group as well as stories told by members as well as other musiciand like Brian May of Queen, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Paul Weller of the Jam and the Style council and many others. It is AWESOME and A BRILLIANT book with great stuff in it with great stories and this is an update version of the book as it was released in 2006. The group is still strong after all these years as they are still recording and touring with original founding member Francis Rossi and long time member since 1967 Rick Parfitt. This book is a must for any Status Quo fans which I am giving it 5 stars and it's in the shops now so do yourself a favour and BUY IT.

Classic Album-It's Everly Time by the Everly Brothers

It's back the classic album segment is here now and I'm looking forward to present the classic albums for this year which they will be some great ones coming up. For this week's segment let's have a look at the 1960 album by legendary American singing duo the Everly Brothers called It's Everly time. This album was their first one for Warner Brothers which they had just signed up after leaving the Cadence label where they had the great success from 1957-60 with classics like Bye Bye Love, Wake Up Little Suzie, All I Have To DO Is Dream, Bird Dog, Till I Kissed You among others and this album recorded at RCA Victor in Nashville Tennessee from March 8th-24th 1960. It's Everly Time was released in May 1960 which it went to number 9 in the USA and number 2 in the UK and from that album it had the 1 hit single written by Don Everly called So Sad which went to number in the USA that year and also Tom Palumbo did the cover photo. It an excellent and a wonderful album

Dennis Locorriere Dr Hook and Beyond Queensland shows

In April-May this year Dennis Locorriere the lead singer of legendary American music group of the 70's Dr Hook will be touring Australia and be playing in NSW,Queensland, ACT,Tasmania,Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. Dennis will be playing 5 shows in Queensland including 3 in Brisbane and he will be performing the many of Dr Hook hits like Walk RIght In, Sharing the Night Together, A Little Bit More, Sylvia's Mother and many other and it will be a one man show which he will be telling stories about his time in the band and what he's been doing since his last Australian tour in 2004. If you want to go and see him buy your tickets at the venues near you in Queensland and you will enjoy the experience seeing a true music icon of the 70's.
