INVICTUS
On january 23rd I went to Carindale Cinema to see the film Invictus. Nelson Mandela(Morgan Freeman in his Oscar Nominated role) is released from in 1990 after serving 26 years in jail and 4 years later is elected President Of South Africa which he pledging to unite the south african people and would see the end of the aparthied. He attends an Springboks game against England which non white SOuth Africans are cheering against the home team and their name, history and even colours mean prejudice and aparthied. Knowing that the country is hosting the 1995 World Cup in a year's time, mandela has an meeting the South African Sports Committee telling them not to change the springboks team, name and colour and meets the captain Francis Pienaar(matt Damon). Even though Mandela does;nt tell his true meaning during that meeting Pienaar understands beneath the surface and if the team can gain support of non white south africans and succeed in the World Cup south africa will be unified and inspired. Mandela shares with Pienaar an poem called Invictus which had been inspiring to him during his time in prison helping him to stand when he all wanted to do was lie down. it's an amazing, brilliant and an wonderful movie. Top acting by Morgan freeman and Matt damon and BRILLIANT directing by Clint Eastwood. i gave it 5 stars
