Since 2016 I have been collecting some of Lionel Long's work on Vinyl and I have the Homicide DVD's that he was in as well as Bandstand. I would like to mention his music as he does not get recognition for that as he recorded singles and albums which was not chart hits but he was very well known doing the music shows like Bandstand as well as hosting Sing Sing Sing and Music Time on Channel 7 as well as doing Homicide from 1968-69 as Detective Bert Costello and he recorded for EMI, RCA and Arrival labels which lot of his songs were Bushranger as folk music. The records I have collected are- 1. The first album Waltzing Matilda (1961) 2. His 1959 single Mighty Pyramid 3. his 1968 single To The Top End Of The World 4. the b side of True True Lvin from 1965 Love Is An Eagle 5. the self titled EP from 1961 6. his 1968 album Walkabout. it's an shame that his work has never been released on CD and there should be an time to get his work released as it would be great to hear h

Little Red Rider by Michael Nesmith and the First National Band (1970)

Image
In 1970 Michael Nesmith left the Monkees and formed his band the First National Band. In that year he and the First National Band released an album called Magnetic South which had the hit single Joanne which went to number 3 in Australia and number 21 in the USA. There is an track on the album called Little Red Rider and it went to number 16 in Adelaide in 1970 where it stayed there for 6 weeks. It's amazing that it was an only hit in Adelaide but no where else in the world.

Image
The single Scene Of The Crime by Dinah Shore was released on the RCA label late 1958 which was not an hit in the USA but it went to number 65 in Australia and number 39 in Brisbane in early 1959. The b side was I'm Sitting On Top Of The World and were backed by Harry Zimmerman's Orchestra. It's amazing to know that this song was only an hit here in Australia considering her last American Top 40 was in 1957 with I'll Never Say Never Again Again and it's an great song which holds up very well.

500 Miles by The Journeymen

I bought this record at Rocking Horse in Brisbane Sunday October 15th 2017 and the single 500 Miles by the Journeymen was released in the USA and Canada in 1961 but it was not an hit single which the b side River She Come Down written by John Phillips and Richard Weissman. The Journeymen were an folk group which had John Phillips and Scott McKenzie at the time and this was 4 years before John formed the Mamas and the Papas and 6 before Scott would have the hit single written by John Phillips If You're Going To San Francisco. The group also had Dick Weissman who has written books and being an teacher.

Lovin Things by Bobby Rydell

Image
Lovin Things by Bobby Rydell was an cover of the Artie Scherock song which he himself recorded in 1967 and Bobby's version went to number 14 in Brisbane in 1968 which I think it was an hit only here in Brisbane. The British group Marmalade did a version of it which went to number 6 in the UK during the year and the American group The Grass Roots had an hit with it the following year 1969 going to number 49 in the USA and number 78 in Australia. I have heard Bobby's version as well as playing the 45 and it is an excellent song which it's amazing to know that it was only an hit in Brisbane.
