Blackbird

On Friday night I went to the Balmoral Cinema to see the movie Blackbird and Lily (Susan Sarandon ) who is married to Paul (Sam Neill) who is an doctor  is terminally ill and  gets her family together including daughters Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Wasikowska ) one last weekend before she ends her life but then there are issues between the daughters and Lily  as well as secrets too and then it gets interesting. It's sad, touching and very entertaining with top and excellent acting by Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Sam Neill, Mia Wasikowska, Lindsay Duncan, Rainn Wilson, Bex Taylor Klaus and Anson Boon. It is directed by Roger  Michell and produced by Rob Van Norden, Sherryl Clark and David Bernardi. It is well worth seeing   and I give it 4 stars as it's in the cinemas at the moment so do yourselves an favour and You will be amazed, impressed and touched. 

Once Upon A Twilight

 This was the pilot episode of what was going to be an TV series that starred Australian group the Twilights who were one of the top Australian groups at the time with an string of hits including Needle In A Haystack, What's Wrong With the Way I Live, Young Girl etc and launched the careers of Glenn Shorrock who would go on to great success with Axiom and Little River Band and Terry Britten who has gone on  to great success as an songwriter. Inspired by the Monkees it was going to include zany youthful antics by the group along with the musical numbers  and in the pilot episode it has Mary Hardy who played the secretary for the group, Madeline Orr who played the President of the Gumnut Gully Ladies Auxiliary whose son Alphonse (Ronnie Burns an big name of Australian music at the time ) is an upcoming pop singer and  among the songs includes the Twilights Cathy Come Home and the Ronnie Burns In The Morning written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees. Sweet Inspiration by Kate Ceberano

 This is the new album by Australian singer Kate Ceberano  which was recorded in Melbourne and it has mainly covers and 2 originals which the title track was written by Kate Ceberano herself and Australian singer Rick Price as well as the among covers including the Beatles classic The Long and Winding Road, I Will Always Love You the Dolly Parton song which was the hit for Whitney Houston in 1992, You Needed Me the Anne Murray song etc which she does it so well and singing them in her own style. It is an FANTASTIC album with great songs and an great and soulful vocal performance  by Kate who is still great better than ever  and this album went to number 5 in Australia which it is great to see as it is her first top 5 album since 2007 with Nine Lime Avenue. This is an must for Kate Ceberano fans and I give it 4 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will love it. 

Singled Out by Shakin Stevens

 This is the new 3 CD set by legendary Welsh singer Shakin Stevens  which was out at the end of last year and it has   the singles that he put out from the 1970's until 2020 and it includes Green Door, This Ole House, Somebody Touched Me (his first hit in Australia in 1978 before achieving hits in the UK), Oh Julie, Merry Christmas Everyone, Shirley, It's Late and many other great classics. It's ROCKIN, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with FANTASTIC songs which has stood the test of time and  still sounds as great today. The 3 CD set went to number 10 in the UK  and also last there was an 19 CD set called Fire In the Blood the Definitive Collection. This is an must for Shakin Stevens fans  and I give it 5 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will love it and amazed. 

Rock The House @ QPAC

 On Saturday night February 20th I went to QPAC Lyric Theater to see the show Rock The House which had 4 Australian music legends Kate Ceberano, John Paul Young, Glenn Shorrock and Brian Cadd  and Ross Wilson was supposed to come but because of the situation in Victoria he couldn't go and it was my first  live show @ QPAC since June 12th 2019 when I saw the Monkees with Mike Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz. I caught the bus from Carindale to South Bank which I saw Rob an man I knew from Norman Park church from 2005-11  which we got talking, I got off at South Bank, saw Davina an lady I knew on the train 30 years ago  which it was the first time saw her in 28 years since about mid 1993 on an Wednesday and saw her sister, went to Nandos, rang home, Had chicken and chips for dinner, drank coke zero and walk to QPAC. Show the bar code of my ticket, put my bag in cloakroom, ate chocolate, went inside and waited. The show started at about 8pm with Kate Ceberano was first on stage doing 2 songs

Stage Fright by the Band

  In 1970 the Band released their 3rd album Stage Fright which went to number 5 in the USA , number 15 in the UK and number 2 in  Australia and from that album it had the hit single Time To Kill which Todd Rundgren was the engineer as well as the group  producing the album themselves  and it was recorded at Woodstock Playhouse in Woodstock New York in May and June that year and also it has been reissued on CD again as well as on 180 gram black vinyl  and an multi format Super Deluxe 2CD/Blu Ray/1 LP/7 inch vinyl box  but the one I am reviewing is the double CD version.  On the Double CD it has the tracks on the album as well as bonus tracks which has alternate mix of 2 songs as well as songs they did at the Calgary Room Hotel and the live concert at the Royal Albert Hall London in June 1971 which they performed tracks from the 3 albums as well as the Marvin Gaye song Don't Do It.  It is FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with FANTASTIC songs which has stood the test of time and they j

Zappa

 This afternoon I went to the Dendy Cinema at Coorparoo to see the documentary Zappa  which it's about the American singer-songwriter and musician Frank Zappa and in this documentary  it has archival interviews with Frank Zappa as he talks about his life in California, getting his first record as an teenager, playing in an band called the Blackouts, having his own studio, forming the Mothers of Invention  and the success he had in the 60's and 70's as well as the person behind the persona  as well as being anti censorship and it has interviews with his first wife Gail, Bunk Gardner, Ian Underwood, Ruth Underwood, Steve Vai, Pamela Des Barres, Scott Thunes and many others. It's FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with Brilliant stories and interviews and an great watch and an impressive one about an true legend of rock and roll. It's directed by Alex Winter  who also did the screenplay and executive producers Robert Halmi and Jim Reeve. It will be 28 years this December

 This is the autobiography of legendary British singer Cliff Richard  and in this book he talks about his upbringing in India, coming to England aged 7, started to get into Rock and Roll after listening to Elvis Presley, singing with the Quintones, achieving great success with classic hits like Move It, Living Doll, Please Don't Tease, Summer Holiday, Bachelor Boy, Congratulations, We Don't Talk Anymore and may others, doing the movies, working with The Shadows, Olivia Newton John, Phil Everly, Norrie Paramour etc, becoming an Christian, the wrongful sexual allegations he went through and many others. IT's FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with AWESOME, Entertaining and Impressive stories and an great great read  which should be enjoyed and also Cliff tells it very honestly. Wild Mountain Thyme

 On Saturday afternoon I went to the South Bank Cinema to see the movie Wild Mountain Thyme. Rosemary Muldoon (Emily Blunt) who lives with her mother (Dearbhla Molloy) and has an liking for Anthony Reilly(Jamie Dornan) which she wants to be with him. But  the problem is  that Anthony is likely to have a family curse  and remains oblivious to his admirer. Anthony's father Tony(Christopher Walken) decides to sell the farm to his American nephew Adam (Jon Hamm) and then it gets interesting. It's Excellent, Impressive and very entertaining with great acting by Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm and Christopher Walken. An very heartwarming, romantic and an really good laugh  and enjoyable too. It's directed by John Patrick Shanely who did the screenplay and it's based on the book he wrote called Outside Mullingar and also produced by Anthony Bregman, Bradley gallo, Michael A Helfant, Martina Niland and Alex Witchel. Life With Lucy

 This is the complete series of the short lived American TV series Life With Lucy  which it starred Lucille Ball and Gale Gordon who had worked together on The Lucy Show from 1962-68 and Here's Lucy from 1968-74 and this was the 4th  and Lucy show that Lucille Ball did starting with I Love Lucy with ex husband Desi Arnaz along with Vivian Vance and William Frawley. The other cast members that was on the Life With Lucy  were Ann Dusenberry, Larry Anderson, Jenny Lewis, Philip J Amelio and Donovan Scott and in the show she played Lucy Barker who is the mother of Margot which she lives with Margot, husband Ted and 2 children Becky and Kevin. Lucy is an widow who inherited her husband's half interest in an hardware store  which was the other half owned by Ted's father Curtis McGibbon  and Curtis also lives with Margo, Ted and the Family. The show started on September 20th 1986 which unfortunately only 8 episodes which it finished November 8th that year and the other 5 episodes
