The Railway Man
On Wednesday January 8th I went to the Balmoral cinema with my mum to see the movie the Railway Man. Eric Lomax (Colin Firth) an retired railways signal engineer who has a interest in trains and timetables when he meets Patti (Nicole Kidman) and they get married but then Eric is having nightmares which as we learn from Eric's friend Finlay(Stellan Skarsgard) that both him and Eric(the younger version played by Jeremy Irvine) had been POW's at the hands of the Japanese during World War 2 and had been sent to work on the building of the Burma Bangkok Railway which Eric would experienced a much harder time as he is being beaten and interrogated at the hands of a Japanese officer played by Tanroh Ishida when he revealed about the makeshift radio and his torture is horrific and then he learns that guard now played by Hiroyuki Sanada is still alive being an tourist guide at the memorial of the railway and it gets interesting. It is a sad, touching and a BRILLIANT movie with BRILLIANT acting by Colin Firth,Nicole Kidman,Stellan Skarsgard, Hiroyuki Sanda, Tanroh Ishida, Jeremy Irvine, Sam Reid as the younger Finlay and many others and it is based on the true story of the autobiography of Eric Lomax's who passed away in 2012. The director is Jonathan Teplitzky, producers are Bill Curbishley, Andy Paterson and Chris Brown, Andy also did the screenplay with Frank Cottrell Boyce and the music is done by David Hirscfelder who was from the Little River as well as playing in John Farnham's back up band from 1986-92. This movie will struck a chord with everyone particularly with WW2 survivors as well as the families and I felt bit a sad at the end if it which i nearly got teary but it is a great story and has a positive in the end. I give this 5 stars and it's in the cinemas now.
