Philomena
On Friday January 10th I went to the Balmoral Cinema to see the movie Philomena. Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan) a journalist who has just lost his job as an adviser for the Labor Government and is not sure about whether to write a book about the Russian history or take up running. But then he meets a elderly Irish woman named Philomena Lee(Judi Dench) who as a teenager in Ireland in 1952 had fallen pregnant which she went to a convent in Roscrea where she gave birth to a son but then as a toddler he was taken away from her for adoption in America and she has suffered from the loss ever since so Sixsmith offers to help her to find her son and it gets interesting. It is a MAGNIFICENT and a BRILLIANT movie as well as sad and touching with a MAGNIFICENT performance by Judi Dench which she does a great job as Philomena as well as great acting by Steve Coogan who also wrote and produced the movie, Anna Maxwell as Jane, Sophie Kennedy Clark as the young Philomena, Michelle Farley as Sally, mare Winningham as Mary and many others. Robbie Ryan did the cinematography, Alexandre Desplat did the music and Stephen Frears was the director. I am giving this 5 stars and it's in the cinemas now so be sure to see it.
