Classic Albums: Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps by Gene Vincent
This week's classic album segment let's go back to the 50's this time which the album I am reviewing is the 1957 album by US pioneering rocker Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps called Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps. this album was the follow up to the first album called Blue Jean Bop that was released in 1956 and this album was recorded on June 27th,October 16th,17th and 18th 1956 which it was released on March 4th 1957 which it was released on the Capitol label. It was produced by Ken Nelson who also wor ked with Merle Travis, Hank Thompson,Wanda Jackson, Ferlin Huskey and many others and on background vocals were the legendary vocal group the Jordanaires who was working with Elvis Presley at the time as well as later on Ricky nelson, Jim Reeves,Connie Francis, Patsy Cline, Johnny Horton and many others. It's an rockin classic album with great rockin songs like pink Thunderbird, You Told A Fib, Hold Me Hug me Rock Me, Unchained Melody and many others which holds up really well after 55 years. Gene Vincent who had an successful 1956 with the breakthrough single Be Bop A Lula as well as other minor hits Race With the Devil and BlueJean Bop and would in 1957 have success with Lotta Lovin and Dance to the Bop and also toured Australia in OCtober with Eddie Cochran, Little Richard, Alis Lesley and Australian rocker Johnny O'Keefe. It's hard to believe that it's nearly 41 years this October when Gene Vincentr passed away but the music he made has lived and still endures and had an great band with the Blue Caps who an month have been inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame which it was long overdue and truly deserved it with Brilliant musicians like Dickie Harrell on drums, Cliff Gallup on lead guitar who influenced people like Jeff BEck,Eric Clapton and others, Paul Peek on rhythm guiar, Jack neal on upright bass as well as later on Tommy Facenda, Johnny Meeks, Bob Jones, Bill Mack and others. gene still remains an influence today as he influenced people like the BEatles, the stray cats and many others and also Jeff Beck had an copy of the album when his sister Annetta bought it from the local record store in Wallington,England in 1957. this album is well worth listening and it rocks and rocks even today and to me it's an classic album indeed.
