Brian Wilson-Reimagines Gershwin
Just on Friday in Australia and a week and a half ago in the USA the new Brian Wilson album "Reimagines Gershwin" was released on the Pearl label an connection with Disney. Brian Wilson was approached by the Gershwin estate to record an album of classic Gershwin songs during summer 2009 and to complete 2 unfinished piano pieces which was left by George Gershwin at the time of his death. It's an great collaboration between 2 legendary singer songwriters in a way which even though Gershwin passed away from a brain tumor on July 11th 1937 aged 39 his and Ira's music still endures after all these years and Brian who is very much alive still making music today after nearly 50 years since forming the Beach Boys and writing classic hits Like Fun Fun Fun, Surfin USA, Surfer Girl, I Get Around, Help ME Rhonda, California Girls, GOd Only Knows, Good Vibrations. It was Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue" that helped Brian Wilson going into music. this album is just brilliant and AWESOME and it has 14 great tracks including the intro and Reprise of Rhapsody In Blue. They Cant Take that Away From me and I got Rhythm are really rocking, he does an Brilliant version of I got Plenty o' Nuttin as an instrumental, an doo wop version of Summertime, an very nice version of S WONDERFUL, the 2 unfinished Gershwin songs that Brian completed with Scott Bennett The like in I Love you and Nothing But Love which they are just GREAT and other great stuff on this album. It's must for any Brian Wilson/Beach Boys fans and for people who are fans of Gershwin's music and Brian Wilson does an BRILLIANT job doing this album. I'm giving this 5 stars and it's in the shops now.
