the Special Relationship
last Friday I went to see the movie the Special Relationship @ Balmoral Cinema. It's 1992, an ambitious politician from Britain named Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) is in Washington DC where he meets the advisors who put Bill Clinton into office and then in 1996 he meets Bill Clinton(Dennis Quaid) where he sees Blair as an leader unlike himself as he leans towards centre left politically and he defeats John Major in a slide in 1997. Bill and his wife Hilary (Hope Davis) visit London where he and Blair hare about his excitement over their unique opportunity to advance their centre left ideas and bring changes in the next few years. they enjoy the special relationship as well as Hilary and Cherie Blair (Helen McCrory) and Clinton advises Blair to hit the ground running and decide his future before someone else does. As both Clinton and Blair continue their term in office personal and world events determine which guy has the upper hand including the Northern Ireland conflict, the Monica Lewinsky scandal and the Kosovo crisis play a part of shifting their positions on the world stage as well as the opinions of one another. It's an excellent movie and excellent acting by Dennis Quaid as Bill Clinton and Michael Sheen as TOny Blair which it's the 3rd time that he plays Blair as he played him in the Queen and the Deal, Helen mcCrory reprises her role as Cherie Blair which she is excellent and so is Hope Davis as Hilary Clinton. It's directed by Richard Loncraine and produced by Ann Wingate, Frank Doelger and Tracy Scoffield . It's in the cinemas now and I give it 4 and a half stars
