Classic ALbums-What's Going On Marvin Gaye

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1971 album by Motown singer Marvin Gaye with What's Going On. The recording of this album began from June until September 1970 and from March-May 1971 at Hitsville USA, Golden World and United sound Studios in Detroit Michigan and the Sound Factory in West Hollywood California and it was released on May 21st 1971 which it went to number 6 in the USA which it would sell over 2 million copies as it would stay in the charts for nearly a year as it would be at that time Motown's as well as Marvin Gaye's biggest selling album. It was produced By Marvin Gaye himself as well as writing the songs and from that album it would 3 hit singles-the title track which he wrote with Al Cleveland and Renaldo "Obie" Benson of the singing group the Four Tops went to number 2 In the USA, Mercy Mercy Me(number 4 USA) and Inner City Blues number 9 in the USA and also James Hendin did the photography. Elvis Presley recorded Live on Stage In Memphis

On March 20th 1974 Elvis Presley who was on an sold out US tour which ran over 150 shows performed at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis which it was recorded and it was released on July 7th 1974 which went to number 33 in the USA, number 27 in Canada and number 44 in the UK and also number 1 on the US country charts. It is now being reissued as it is the expanded version which includes newly remixed and remastered audio of the concert including the songs that were not on the live album as well as an second CD which has a recent located recording in Richmond Virginia 2 days before as well as 5 rehearsal performances on August 16th 1974 in Hollywood at RCA Studios. It is an EXCELLENT and a BRILLIANT double CD with great songs and it has a great booklet which has rear photos of Elvis on the 1974 tour which looks great too with Ken Sharp doing the liner notes. Tommy was released in 1969 which it was a huge success as it revitalized the career of the Who and it was billed as a rock opera which it has sold to this day over 20 million copies as well as being being revived as a movie that was directed by Ken Russell in 1975 and a stage production that toured in the early 90's. For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1964 album by the Beatles A Hard Day's Night. The recording of the album was held @ Abbey Road Studios in London and Marconi Studios in Paris France on January 29th, February 25th-27th, march 1st and June 1-4 1964 and it was released in England on July 10th 1964 which it went to number 1 there on July 19th where it stayed for 21 weeks and number 1 US which it had been released on June 26th for 14 weeks. It was produced by George Martin and from this album came the 2 hit singles the title track and Can't Buy Me Love which both number 1 hits which this album was the first Beatles album feature all original songs written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney as well as the name of A Hard Day's night came from a saying that Ringo Starr had said and also it was the first Beatles album to be recorded on 4 track entirely which allowed for good stereo mixes. Child Of Rock and Roll is the new CD by legendary Australian singer Bobby Bright who was also from the legendary duo in the 60's Bobby and Laurie. This CD was released last year (2013) and it has 5 tracks on it all written by Bobby Bright who also produced it with Michael Oliphant who also did the engineering, arranging and was also the executive producer as well playing keyboards on the album as Crystal Mastering who did the mastering and Jennifer McBain did the photography. It is AWESOME and BRILLIANT CD with great singing by Bobby Bright who stills sound great today and all the songs including the title track are just BRILLIANT too and also among the musicians who played on this CD were Roger McLachlan from Little River Band and Ross Hannaford from Daddy Cool. Deke Dickerson show @ Morningside Services Club

On Sunday March 16th I went to Morningside Services Club to AMerican rockabilly singer Deke Dickerson along with support acts Twang and the Hi Boys which it was my first time seeing Deke and Twang and second time seeing the Hi Boys. Dad drove me to the Morningside Services Club which I had Rump Steak,Chips and salad for lunch, took photos, went inside and waited which I ordered my ticket online. The first act on stage was Twang at 1.45pm which they did an excellent set with excellent singing and playing by the group and there was an interval. Then the next act was the Hi Boys which they did an excellent set doing mainly their own songs as well as some covers and played great too and there was another interval which I had a coke Zero as well as taking photos. then Deke Dickerson came on with Jon Flynn on Double bass and Tommy on drums and they did an AWESOME set with a mixture of original songs and some covers and during Deke's set Jon and Tommy did a lead vocal each on one song ...

Classic Albums-Rick Is 21 by Rick Nelson

For this week's classic albums let's have a look at the 1961 album by American rock singer Rick Nelson called Rick is 21. The recording of this album began @ United Studios and Master Recorders in Hollywood California from february 11th 1960 until April 17th 1961 and it was released in May 1961 which it went to number 8 in the USA where it would stay in the charts for almost one full year. Jimmie Haskell produced the album who also did the arranging and it was from this album that had the hit 2 singles Travellin Man written by Jerry Fuller which was a number 1 hit and Hello marylou written by American singer-songwriter Gene Pitney (no 9 USA) with that brilliant guitar solo played by guitarist James Burton who was playing with at that time which those 2 songs was a double hit for Rick that year(1961). John Rowles show @ Kedron Wavell Services CLub

On Friday March 7th I went to Kedron Wavell Services Club to see New Zealand singer John Rowles and it was my 2nd time seeing him as my first time was @ Kedron Wavell Services with Mum on May 20th 2011. I caught the bus from Cannon Hill to Chermside and walked to Kedron Wavell which I had Nachos for dinner and a Chocolate Sundae. Went up to the Blue Pacific Room, bought a double CD of John Rowles called If I Only Had Time and had a conversation with some people on the table I was sitting at. The show started @ 8.40pm with John Rowles wearing a suit and for the next 1 hour and 45 minutes he did just the 1 set doing his classic hits as well as other people's songs as telling stories and having a great humor and also wearing a hat during 1 song and as well as playing guitar in the set too. The show finished at about 10.25pm and he had the CD on sale after the show which he came out to sign as well as getting photos with the fans which I got my Cd signed and a photo with him and als...

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the self titled album by Fleetwood Mac from 1975 which it was the debut album for both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in the group. Throughout the early 70's after the departure of guitarist and founding member Peter Green Fleetwood Mac went through many line up changes including Christine McVie (aka Perfect) joined in 1970 as well as Bob Welch joining in 1971 as well as departures of guitarists Jeremy Spencer in 1971 and Danny Kirwan in 1972 as they achieved modest success and then after moving to America in 1974 the group recorded the album Heroes Are Hard To Find which it was the last album for Bob Welch who would left the group after a tour in December that year. For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1967 album called Evolution by British rock group the Hollies. The recording of the album was held at Abbey Road Studios in London in just 6 days over 3 months from January 11th until March 17th 1967 and it was released on 1st June 1967(same day as the Beatles album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was released ) which it went to number 13 in the UK and no 43 in the USA which it was released there on the Epic label as their 1st for that label as they had other stuff released on the Imperial label. It was produced by Ron Richards who had been their producer since 1963 and from this album there was not hit singles on it or EP released in the UK but there was on the US album Carrie Anne was on it and also all the songs were all original written by Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks. 12 Years A Slave

On Friday night February 28th I went to the Myer Center Cinema to see the movie 12 Years A Slave. It's 1841 in and Solomon Northup(Chiwetel Ejiofor) who was born a free man as well as being a skilled carpenter and a fiddle player living in Saratoga Springs in new York but then was sold into slavery at the New Orleans Market which starts his nightmare for the next 12 years. He works first for plantation owner named William Ford(Benedict Cumberbatch)but then is resented by a racist carpenter named John Tibeats(Paul Dano) and then works for Edwin Ebbs (Michael Fassbender) who is a harsh owner who has a desire for a slave named Patsy (Lupita Nyong'o) and it gets interesting throughout the movie. It is a BRILLIANT and a SUPERB movie despite the sad and horrific story with BRILLIANT acting by Chiwetel Ejiofor who is nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars, Michael Fassbender who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, Lupita Nyong'o who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress, ...
