Byrds by the Byrds

Byrds was an album recorded by legendary American rock group The Byrds in 1973. The album was an reunion of the original line up of the Byrds with Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, David Crosby, Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke who had not recorded together since January 1966 as well as an album since the Turn Turn Turn album in 1965 and by 1972 McGuinn continued with the Byrds, Crosby with great success with Crosby Stills, Nash and Young, Chris Hillman with The Flying Burrito Brothers and Manassas with Stephen Stills, Gene Clark with a solo career and Michael Clarke who had not played in a band since leaving the Flying Burrito Brothers in 1971. There had been talk of the original Byrds getting back since 1971 but it was not until October 1972 when the reunion took place as the members rehearsed at McGuinn's place to rehearse new songs for a new project and it turned to be album known as Byrds which they signed up for the Asylum label owned by Devid Geffen. The recording of the album occurred at Wally Heider Recording Studios in Los Angeles in Studio 4 from October 16th 1972 until November 15th 1972 with David Crosby as producer. The album was released on March 7th 1973 which it went to number 20 in the USA and number 31 in the UK but it received poor reviews by the critics and there had been talk of a tour but sadly it never happened as by the time the Byrds current line up broke up so the other members went on to do other projects and also this album is out on CD again which it's been released by Ravern Records. On this remastered album besides from the original 11 tracks it has 2 bonus songs recorded by Gene Clark as well as the booklet done by Ian MacFarlane. It an excellent album with great songs and it holds up so very well to this day and an enjoyable to listen with songs like Born To Rock n Roll, things Will Be Better which the tracks were written by Gene Clark, Roger McGuinn, David Crosby and Chris Hillman as well as 2 Neil Young songs and 1 Joni Mitchell. Great effort done by Raven Records as well as Warren Barnett doing the mastering and preparing by Peter Shillito, Kevin Mueller and Ian McFarlane. It is 50 years this when the Byrds were formed, it will be 50 years in 2015 when Mr Tambourine Man was released and 41 years when the group broke up but they are still one of the influential groups in the history of rock music and are still fondly remembered to this day. This is a must for Byrds fans and I am giving this 4 stars which it's in the shops now so do yourself a favour and BUY IT.
