Selma
Last Friday night I went to the Balmoral Cinema to see the movie Selma. It's 1964 and Martin Luther King(David Oyelowo) accepts the Noble Peace Prize while prior to that an bomb explosion occurred which kills 4 girls while Annie Lee Cooper(Oprah Winfrey) goes to get registered to vote but is rejected by the white registrar and Martin Luther King along with Ralph Abernathy(Colman Domingo), Andrew Young(Andre Holland), James Orange(Omar Dorsey) and Diane Nash(Tessa Thompson) goes to Selma,Alabama which they are greeted by James Bevel(Common) as well as the other SCLC members which leads to the start of the historical struggle to secure the voting rights for African Americans by marching from Selma to Montgomery Alabama which gets interesting. It is an BRILLIANT and an SUPERB movie with BRILLIANT acting by David Oyelowo, Cuba Gooding Jr who played Fred Gray, Diane Nash, Tom Wilkinson who played American President Lyndon Johnson, Dylan Baker who played J Edgar Hoover, Martin Sheen who played Judge Frank Minis Johnson, Common, Tessa Thompson, Colman Domingo,Tim Roth as Governor George Wallace, Omar Dorsey, Oprah Winfrey, Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King, Andre Holland and many others. It's directed by Ava DuVernay, produced by Oprah Winfrey, Christian Colson, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, Paul Webb did the screenplay and Jason Moran did the music. I enjoyed seeing this movie which it's a must for anyone who is in to history and and I give this 5 stars which it's currently running in the cinemas at the moment so do yourself a favour and SEE IT.
