Frankie Davidson
Just last weekend I saw on Facebook about the sad passing of Australian singer Frankie Davidson aged 88 which was very sad to hear that. He was one of the first Australian singers to record rock and roll which he did an EP with Max Bostock and His Rockets on the Danceland label called Rock and Roll With Frank Davidson and recorded for the W&G label from 1959-64 which included I Care For You(NO 56 Australia, number 33 Melbourne and 31 Perth 1960), Just For Today (number 56 Australia number 33 Melbourne in 1961), Yabba Dabba Doo (number 42 Australia number 14 Adelaide number 33 Melbourne and number 16 Perth 1961), Have You Ever Been To See Kings Cross(no 8 Australia and number 6 Brisbane 1962 which Colin Cook played sax on it) and many others. Did appearances on TV shows like IMT(In Melbourne Tonight), the Hi FI Club on Channel 9 hosted by Bert Newton, Bandstand hosted by Brian Henderson and many others. He also recorded for the Sunshine Label, Fable, M7, HMV, Rehubarb, Brook and Living Sound. He did TV shows as an actor including Homicide, Matlock Police, A Country Practice and had some more hits in the 70's with Gimme Dat Ding which went to number 21 in Australia in 1970, The Ball Bearing Bird(number 55 Australia 1971) and I Love A Sunburnt Football number 19 AUstralia 1973 and had worked in England and America in the 60's as well as Europe. He continued to tour and record for many years and appeared at the sydney gatherings in the later years. It is sad that he has passed away which it's an great loss for Australian entertainment and to his family and may the great music he made will live on forever. It is a shame that he has never been inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame which he should be be there for the impact he made on Australian music and there has never been an compilation of his music from the different eras so let's hope there will be one day. Thanks for the memories and the music.
