This is the new compilation CD of legendary Australian singer-songwriter Kevin Johnson and on the CD it has his recordings from the 70's including the classics Rock and Roll I Gave You The Best Years Of My Life, Bonnie Please Don't Go, Man of The 20th Century, Kedron Brook and many others and there are some bonus tracks includign 3 from 1996. It is excellent and FANTASTIC with great songs that has stood the test of time and they still sound great today as it did back then. Rock and Roll I Gave You The Best Of My Life is an classic which has been recorded by people like Mac Davis, The Cats, Terry Jacks, Digby Richards and many others and Kevin Johnson is someone that should be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame for his impact on Australian music. This is an must for Australian music fans and I give it 4 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will love this.

This is the new CD of Reg Lindsay and it has 17 songs including 14 that Reg Lindsay wrote or co wrote with his wife Ros which among them were Silence On the Line, Country All The Way which backing vocals by Donita Dey, Today's Like Yesterday with Jodie Crosby on backing vocals, Before The Dawn and his 1971 hit Armstrong. It is an excellent CD with great songs and an great country sound which holds up very nicely and sounds great today. It is 14 years since Reg Lindsay passed away but the great music he made has stood the test of time which you always hear Armstrong on the radio to this day and the TV shows he did are still remembered to this day. This is an must for Australian country music fans and I give it 4 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will love it.

Poor Side In Town Johnny Rivers in the Brisbane Charts 1966

American singer Johnny Rivers who had an string of hit singles from 1964-78 as well as 3 hit live albums that were recorded at the Whiskey Au Go Go in Los Angeles had only 1 number one hit in the USA which was in 1966 with the song Poor Side Of Town and he wrote that with Lou Adler who also produced it and had been producing the Mamas and the Papas, Jan and Dean and Carole King amongst others. It went to number 1 in the USA on November 12th 1966 where it stayed there for 1 week and it was not an hit in Australia but it went to number 36 in Brisbane for 3 weeks in December that year as well as going to number 21 in Perth in October that year as well. Again interesting to consider that it was huge in the USA but not an hit internationally.

This is the new CD compilation of the legendary American rock and roll singing duo the Everly Brothers and this is an diffrent compilation as it has deeper rockabilly tracks as well as some of the covers including I Walk The Line the Johnny Cash song and some of the hits including Cathy's Clown, When Will I Be Loved, (Til) I Kissed You and many others which the Everly family are involved in compiling this CD as well as Don Everly before he passed away an year ago and the songs were assembled by Adria Petty daughter of American singer-songwriter Tom Petty as wellas Jason Everly son of Phil did the liner notes. This is the autobiography of American rock drummer Matt Sorum and in this book he talks about his upbringing in Los Angeles, his parents split as an child, being abused by his stepfather, getting drums as an child, playing in Bands Liquid Earth, Prophecy, Gregg Wright Band and KY Kant Tori Read with Tori Amos, joined British rock band The Cult from 1989-90, joined American band Guns N Roses in 1991 until 1997 which he was on 3 albums, rejoining the Cult which he was on 1 album, formed the supergroup the Velvet Revolver, encounters with Metallica, Elizabeth Taylor, Clive Davis, Steven Tyler, Lemmy,Gene Simmons and many others, his issues with drugs and alcohol and many others. American singer PJ Proby who had recorded in the USA as well as being an songwriter who went to England after being introduced to British Music TV producer Jack Good by Sharon Sheeley and Jackie DeShannon was having successful hit singles in the UK between 1964 until 1968 with songs including Somewhere, Hold Me, Maria and many others and in 1965 had an record with an song called I Apologise which was an cover of an 1931 song by Bing Crosby as well as Nat Shilkret went to number 11 in the UK but in Brisbane it went to number 23 which it's intersting as it was not an hit in Australia.

As Tomorrow(Sunday August 21st) will be 1 year since the passing of Don Everly the last surviving brother of the iconic rock and roll duo the Everly Brothers with brother Phil who passed away in 2014 I thought I would like to mention that the Everly Brothers had 23 top 40 hits here in Brisbane between 1958 until 1964 and they had only 1 number one hit in Brisbane with Cathy's Clown in 1960 which was their first single on the Warner Brothers label after leaving Cadence which the Cadeence stuff was released in Australia on the London label and also besides from the only number 1 hit they had 9 more top 10 hits in Brisbane. their final Brisbane hit was in 1964 with Gone Gone Gone peaking at number 18 . With the Recent passing of Legendary Australian singer Olivia Newton John just last week I would like to mention that here in Brisbane that Olivia had 30 hits in the Brisbane charts fromm 1971 until 1998 which including 5 number one hits and the last hit was Grease Remix with John Travolta on EP which went to number 27 in Brisbane but the last actual hit she recorded was No Matter What You Do from the album Gaia which she wrote the song herself going to number 28 in Brisbane. As everyone knows that most of her hits written by Australians as well as members of the Shadows and produced by Australians including John Farrar from the Strangers and the Shadows as well as Bruce Welch who produced the early ones. With the recent passing of Seekers member Judith Durham I thought I do an tribute to the Seekers as they were in the Brisbane charts from 1965 until 1975 11 times which included 4 number ones and with Judith they had 10 hits between 1965 until 1968 which the 4 number ones they had in Brisbane were- 1. I'll Never Find Another You (1965) for 2 weeks knocking out The Birds and The Bees by Jewel Akens 2. A World Of Our Own (1965) for 2 weeks knocking out Rockin Robin by The Henchmen an Melbourne group 3. The Carnival Is Over (1965) for 3 weeks knocking out A Lover's Concerto by the Toys 4. Last Tuesday morning before leaving for work I saw on the computer that Australian singer Olivia Newton John passed away from her battle with breast cancer which she first had it 30 years ago and then it came back in 2013 and 2017. I only got to see Olivia Newton John live only once at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday February 21st 1998 as she was an guest on the Cliff Richard tour as he was celebrating 40 years in the music business with my friend Steven Peters, his mum Glenda, his uncle Colin and his Aunty Nada which we only got there as the show just started as we were caught in traffic for about 45 miniutes and Olivia performed a few of her songs which were- Physical, Hopelessly Devoted To You, Suddenly with Cliff, The Twelfth of Never with Cliff, All I Ask Of You with Cliff, Magic with Cliff and Peace In Our Time with Cliff which they sounded great together and she was great too which even though it was that one time I am glad to have seen Olivia live that ine. On Wednesday I went to the Dendy Cinema Coorparoo to see the movie Juniper. It's the 1990's in New Zealand and Sam (George Ferrier) an adolescent who had been to boarding school is sent to stay with his grandmother Ruth (Charlotte Rampling) who is having health issues and in an wheel chair as his father Robert (Marton Csokas) is going to England and the relationship starts not in an good way but then it devlopes as he helps Ruth around and starts to get interesting. It is beautiful and excellent with great acting by Charlotte Rampling, Marton Csokas, George Ferrier and Edith Poor who plays the nurse Sarah. It was directed by Matthew J Saville who also did the screenplay and produced by Desray Armstrong and Angela Littlejohn. It is one the finest performances Charlotte Rampling has given when you think her first film was more than 55 years ago and she still has it. This is the memoir of Australian TV personality Larry Emdur and in the book he talks about growing up in Bondi Beach, started work as a copy boy at the Sun, worked for the Bondi Spectator, started reading the news doing News overnight on Channel 7, worked on Good Morning Australia as well as being an reporter, hosting Family Double Dare, the Main Event, The Price Is Right and The Morning Show, encounters with Yoko Ono and Jason Donovan and many others. It is FANTASTIC and Excellent with very entertaining, impressive and FANTASTIC stories and an great read about an guy who has been on Australian TV since the 80's and still going strong after all these years. Larry is still with the Morning Show every morning and hosts the afternoon show The Chase. This is an must for Australian TV fans and I give it 4 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed and also entertained.

With the recent passing of Seekers lead singer Judith Durham I would like to do an tribute to the Seekers doing shows in Brisbane which the first one did was before they became well known and they did an 2 week stint at the Lennons Hotel in Brisbane in February 1964 The next visit to Brisbane was the following year when they were on the bill with the Dave Clark Five, Tommy Quickly, Bobby and Laurie, Brisbane group The Escorts and Brisbane singer Toni McCann and played the Festival Hall June 3rd 1965 They came back to Brisbane the following year which they toured Australia and New Zealand which on the bill with them were Bill and Boyd (New Zealand act who was also known in Australia ), The Librettos (an New Zealand group) and Marcie Jones and they did Brisbane February 19th 1966 They didn't tour Australia in 1967 which even though they performed at the Myer Music Bowl in front of 200,000 people and were in Queensland in part of the filming of the TV special The Seekers D...

On Saturday afternoon I was in my room when I was looking at my IPAD and saw the news about the passing of Seekers lead singer Judith Durham which I was sad to see that. I first discovered the Seekers with Judith Durham when I was 12 years old on an Wednesday Night in October 1990 listen to 4KQ on an program called Sixties at Six when they played Georgy Girl and I really liked it so that was the start of it really. I had known of the Seekers when they had Julie Anthony and Karen Knowles but had never had heard of Judith Durham at the time until that Time. I got an Seekers tape for Christmas that year called Again which I started to play it a lot and liking the songs as well as getting to know the other songs which among them was Someday Oneday which I first heard that on 4KQ on an Friday night May 1991 on the 6'Clock Classic Countdown. I bought another Seekers tape in July 1991 on an Saturday at myer City in the music section which had Someday Oneday on it and I rememb...

Greazefest 2022

Last Sunday July 31st I went to the Greazefest rockabilly festival at the Cleveland Showgrounds which it was my first time there in 3 years due to covid and I was due to go there last year but because of the lockdown I couldn't go. I caught the 9.47am bus as I had just missed the 8.47am bus, got off at Cleveland and walk to the showgrounds. The first Band I saw on stage was Lovejoy Surf with Kylie on bass, her dad Arnold on lead guitar and brother Jeff and they did an AWESOME set doing the instrumentals of the Shadows, the Ventures, The Atlantics, The Chantays and versions of Friday on My Mind and Call Me which sounded great too with great guitar playing by Arnold who has been around the Brisbane music scene since 1959 as well as great playing by Kylie and Jeff as well as the drummer. Saw Lorraine, Tyler and Kay from Bay FM 100.3, had a look at the Sonic Sherpa Stand where I bought records and saw Eileen. Dezzie D and the Stingrayz came on next which they did an FANTASTIC ...

Last Saturday I went to the Dendy Cinema at Coorparoo to see the movie the Forgiven. An wealthy couple David Henninger (Ralph Fiennes) who is an doctor and his wife Jo (Jessica Chastian) who is an writer and are on the verge of divorce are on their way to an friend's party in the High Atlas of Morocco when they hit an young Morrocan man who was sellinfg fossils which he dies and David goes with 2 Morrocans to bury the boy while jo gets friendy with the blokes at the party and the truth about what really happend to the boy starts to emerge which gets interest. It's interesting and excellent with great acting by Ralph Fiennes, Jessica Chastian, Abbey Lee, Matt Smith, Caleb Landry Jones and Christopher Abbott. It's directed by John Michael McDonagh who also did the screenplay and produced it with Elizabeth Eves, Trevor Matthews and Nick Gordon. I give it 4 stars as it's in the cinemas now so do yourselves an favour and SEE IT which you will be impressed and amazed.
