4IP November 1973

This is from the Telegraph November 30th 1973 and until 1992 when it became 4TAB which it is now Radio TAB 4IP who originally since 1935 had been an Ipswich radio station was one of Brisbane's top radio stations at the time in the early 70's which besides from doing the music the station also promoted events which they did an Big All Family Day at the Plantation in Gumdale on Sunday December 1st 1973 which had pop groups performing, Fashion Parade, Picnics and Pool Fun.

This is the music book written by Australian music writer Bob Hayden and it is about the discography vinyl releases of New Zealand rock legend Johnny Devlin in New Zealand, Australia and the rest of the world of his recordings with the Devils as well as on his own as well as the ones he wrote for other acts including Digger Revell on 45's, LP's and EP's and also there is concert programs too. It is FANTASTIC, AWESOME and SUPERB with FANTASTIC stuff in the book as well as very impressive and very entertaining which it is well worth a look. Bob Hayden has done another FANTATSIC and BRILLIANT job on the book as well as the research and he does it so very well and This is an must for Johnny Devlin fans in Australia and New Zealand which I give it 5 stars as the only way to get the book if you want it is to email him at elvis2594@gmail.com which you will be impressed and amazed.

This is from the Sunday Mail November 29th 1964 and until 1990 when it became B105 4BK was one of Brisbane's popular radio stations at the time in the 60's which among their disc jockeys was Peter McIntyre who was on Sunday mornings from 7am until 7.30am with the 4BK Breakfast Show and then Bill O'Brien was on from 7.50am until 1.30pm with the Bill O'Brien Show playing the latest records that was out at the time that was coming from America, England and Australia.

This is the book about the iconic British classic comedy TV show Fawlty Towers written by one of it's cast members John Cleese and in the book talks about the inspiration for the show, creating the characters, the episodes including the Germans, the behind the scenes of the show and many others. It is FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with AMAZING and BRILLIANT stories as well as very impressive and very entertaining which it is well worth a read. It is 50 years since the show started and 46 years since it ended but it is the still remembered as well as still watched to this day which it still has appeal with the comedy and humour. This is a must for fans of Fawlty Towers and I give it 4 and an half stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed.

This is the memior of British rock singer Ozzy Osbourne and in this book he talks about his marriage to sharon, his health issues including Parkinson's, encounters with perfomers including Keith Moon from the Who, Lemmy from Motorhead, John Bonham from Led Zeppelin and Billy Connolly, his career with Black Sabbath and his solo work, the passing of his guitarist Randy Rhoads in 1982 and many others. It is AWESOME, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with AMAZING, FANTASTIC and AWESOME stories as well as very impressive and very entertaining which it is well worth a read. Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22nd this year which was a huge loss to the music industry and to his family but the great music he made with both Black Sabbath and his solo work live on forever and this is a must for Ozzy Osbourne fans which I give it 5 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves a favour and BUY IT which You will be impressed and amazed.

This is from the Telegraph November 28th 1957 and until 1990 when it became B105 4BK was one of Brisbane's popular radio stations at the time in the 1950's which among their shows that was on at that time was National Amateur Hour which was hosted by Dick Fair that was on at 8pm and among the artists were The Rockets, Marcia Capelle, Brian Coulter and Mary Theodore which the listeners had to vote between 8pm and 9.30pm as well as the Grand Final prize was a return trip for 2 to Honolulu plus 250 pounds.

This is from the Telegraph November 23rd 1959 and now the classic hits station here in Brisbane in 2025 4BH was one of Brisbane's popular radio stations at the time in the late 50's which among their shows was the Rumpus Room which was on Monday to Friday at 4.15pm in the afternoon as it was a talent show which at that time there was a competition as the listeners watch for Santa on the Coke Van and listen for the details on the show.

Wicked For Good

This afternoon I went to the Dendy Cinema Coorparoo where I went to see the sequel to the musical Wicked Wicked For Good. In OZ the people are celebrating the opening of the Yellow Brick Road Glinda (Adriane Grande) who is the spokesperson is engaged to Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) but who still has feelings for Elphaba known as the Wicked Witch of The West (Cynthia Ervio) who is hiding out as she wants to expose the Wizard(Jeff Goldblum), Nessarose(Marissa Bode) who is Elphaba's sister is now the Governor of Munchkinland forbids the Munchkins ot travel and has feelings for Boq(Ethan Slater) but he still had feelings for Glinda but is turned to the Tin Man, Fiyero and Elphaba have feelings for each other and then it gets very interesting. This is the memoir of legendary American singer-songwriter Patti Smith and in this book she talks about life in Philadelphia and New Jersey, being exposed to music, living with Robert Mapplethorne who was a photogapher, starting doing poetry as well as writing lyrics, formed the Patti Smith Group which they would achieve success with albums including Horses(Solo), Radio Ethiopia and Easter , her marriage to Fred "Sonic" Smith from MCS, encounters with William Burroughs, Jimmy Iovine, Jack Douglas and many others. It's FANTASTIC, Impressive and Very Entertaining as well as very impressive and Very entertaining and it is well worth a read indeed. Patti has 4 more US shows happening this month and let's hope she comes back to Australia in the future. It's a must for Patti Smith fans and I give it 4 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves a favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed.

This is the new album by legendary American country singer Willie Nelson and it has songs that were done by Willie's collaborator and American country singer Merle Haggard who passed away 9 years ago that were recorded at East Iris in Nashville, Blackbird Studio also in Nashville and Pedernales Studios in Austin Texas which among the songs were Silver Wings, Mama Tried, Swinging Doors and Tonight I Started Loving You Again which it was also the last recording of long serving members of the Family Band his sister Bobbie who passed away in 2022 and drummer Paul English who passed away in 2020. It is an Fantastic album with great songs which Willie does the songs very well with great respect and still sounding great at age 92. This is the lastest album from legendary Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly and the songs on the album are mainly written by Paul Kelly himself except 1 written by his nephew Dan Kelly, 1 Paul co wrote with Billy Miller from the 70's group The Ferrets who sang backing vocals on one of the tracks and 1 he co wrote with Megan Washington and Sam Dixon who is an Australian record producer on Don't Give Up On Me and also among the musicians who played on the album including Peter Luscombe from the Black Sorrows and Ashley Naylor from Melbourne band Even as well as Rebecca Bernard from the Australian band Rebecca's Empire who sang with Paul on made For Me. This is the new album by legendary Australian country singer James Blundell and this was recorded at the Clubhouse Resdential Studio in Rhinebeck New York which some of the songs were written by James Blundell which mostly co-written with Terry McArthur, Kevin Bennett, Mike Kuokkanen and Mark Meyer as well as among the musicians playing on the album including Bill Payne from the legendary American band Little Feat. It is an FANTASTIC album with FANTASTIC songs with great singing by James who is still sounding great. Last night I went to the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre to see the iconic British music legendary Cliff Richard which it was my 3rd time seeing him as the first was at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre Saturday February 21st 1998 with my friend Steven, his Mum Glenda, His Uncle Colin and his Aunty Nadia and the 2nd was at the Convention Centre Sunday February 3rd 2013. Dad took me to the bus stop, caught the bus to South bank, went to the Plough Inn where I had Chicken Parmy, chips and Salad for dinner, Drank Pepsi max and walk to the Convention Centre. Bought program and Bag and went inside. The show started after 7pm with Cliff Richard coming on stage wearing back suit and tie which in the first set did his hits from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's starting off with the song that launched him Move It as well as classics including Dreamin, the Minute You're Gone, Living Doll, Please Don't Tease and Summer Holiday which he told some stories about the s...

This is the new archival compilation by legendary American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan which I am reviewing the double CD version as there is a 8 CD and 4LP edition and on the double CD edition it has recordings from 1956 until 1963 which includes an 1956 recording at Trelinde Music Shop in St Paul Minnesota, 1959 recording in Hibbing Minnesota, recording Outtakes from 1961, live recordings at Carneige Hall New York in 1963 and many others as well as Sean Wilentz doing the liner notes. It is AWESOME, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with FANTASTIC songs as it is great to hear the devlopement of Bob Dylan from the 50's to the early 60's and to hear those recordings are just FANTASTIC and it has gone to number 32 in Australia, number 28 in the UK, number 1 in the UK Americana Albums charts, number 28 in Holland, number 9 in Germany, number 18 on the Japanese Rock Albums, number 22 on the Japanese Western Albums charts, number 66 in Norway, number 10 in Scotland and number 21 in Sweden and ...

Mars Needs Guitars Hoodoo Gurus

On march 8th 1985 the Australian rock band Hoodoo Gurus released their second album Mars Needs Guitars which went to number 5 in Australia, number 18 in New Zealand, number 47 in Sweden and number 140 in the USA which was produced by the band and Charles Fisher who had produced Ol'55's first album Take It Greasy and from the album it had 4 singles Bittersweet, Like Wow-Wipeout, Death Defying and Poison Pen and also it now out on CD to celebrate 40 years of it's released. On the first of the double CD it has the original tracks that was on the album at the time and on the second CD it has demo versions of most of the tracks as well as an album outtake Johnny. It is FANTASTIC, AWESOME and BRILLIANT as well as ROCKIN with FANTASTIC songs and it holds up very well to this day which still sounds great now as it did back then as great music endures. Danny Mayers (The Delltones)

Just last week I saw on Facebook that Danny Mayers who was the lead singer of the iconic Australian singing group the Delltones from 1982-85 and from 1995 until 2011 passed away from kidney disease which was a shock and sad. Danny was from Lancashire England where he was doing jazz gigs with a group in The Graduates and in 1970 he came to Australia which he lived in Newcastle where he sang with an group called Custom 5 which then became Nevada in about 1974 which Danny came up with the name and would last until 1980 which they recorded for EMI as they released 2 singles that included their version of the Shaun Cassidy song That's Rock & Roll that went to number 3 in Newcastle. Danny performed with the 12 piece band Slippery When Wet which had Sydney session musicians by the early 1980's and in 1982 was asked to joined the Delltones when Pee Wee Wilson saw him perform at the Palais Royale in Newcastle which he joined as he would be with them the first time round from 1982-9...

Geoff was also hosting the QTQ 9 music Teen Beat at the time and 4BC was actually the first Brisbane radio station to the Top 40 which they did it May 19th 1958.

This afternoon I went to the Dendy Theatre in Coorparoo to see the movie Springsteen Deliver Me From Nowhere. It's the early 80's and Ameican singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen (Jeremy Allen White) who has just completed an tour and goes to New Jersey to lay low which he plays at the Stone Pony club with a local band where he encounters Faye(Odessa Young) who is the sister of a school friend who has a daughter Hayley and started dating as well as getting inspiration to write songs for a album and well as recording them on a 4 track recorded in Bruce's bedroom which would become the album Nebraska as well as going through personal and professional issues which gets interesting. This is from the Telegraph November 2nd 1967 and now the talk back station as it is the only commercial one here in Brisbane 4BC was one of Brisbane's top music radio stations at the time in the 60's which among their disc jockeys were Geoff Atkinson, Tony MacArthur and Graeme Smith(Bob) and it was the that Sunday from 6am right through midnight they played the hits by the Monkees that they had at the time as well as other songs for the listeners to win prizes including Monkees Belt, Jeans and records.

This is from the Telegraph November 1st 1956 and now the classic hits station in 2025 4BH was one of Brisbane's popular radio stations at the time in the 1950's which among their shows that was on the station were Australia's Amateur Hour which was hosted by Terry Dear which was on at 8pm that was broadcast live at the Rialto Theatre in the city and the other shows that were on that night were Smoky Dawson at 7pm, The Pied Piper at 7.30pm and at 9pm Bob Rogers with Mood For Love.

2 weeks ago on Facebook I saw the news about the passing of Melbourne Musician and founding member of Melbourne's as well as Australian early rock and roll groups the Thunderbirds Harold Frith which was very sad to see that. Harold was from Essendon, played in an fife and drum band as well as getting drum lessons from Bill Fleming, played in an jazz band called the Dixie Flyers, then formed the rock group The Thunderbirds in 1957 with Laurie Bell, Mickey Borg, Don Tenni, Don Henderson and Marion Grossman which they played their first gig at the Ascot Vale Progess Hall August 29th 1957 which they played there for a few months as well as the Maison Deluxe in Elwwod opposite the Henri Bource All Stars as the original line up lasted only until early 1958 and then Harold and Laurie reformed the group with Peter Robinson on bass guitar and Murray Robertson on piano which later that year Colin Cook and Graeme Lyall who came from the Melbourne group the Sapphires joined on sax later that ...
