Classic Album-True Colours Split Enz
This week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1980 album by New Zealand group Split Enz with True Colours which it was their 5th album. The album was recorded @ Armstrong Studios in Melbourne in 1979 with David Tickle producing it as well as engineering it and assistant engineer Scott Hemmings. The album was released in 1980 on the Mushroom label in Australia, A& M(international),Polydor in New Zealand and Chrysalis in the USA which it hit number 1 in Australia on April 14th 1980 where it stayed there for 10 weeks, number 1 in New Zealand, no 10 in Canada, no 38 in the UK and no 40 in the USA and it was this album that gave Split Enz international success although they were working in England and toured America and the Netherlands and having the success in Australia and New Zealand. From the album there were 2 hit singles was I Got You which was an number 1 hit in Australia, number 1 in New Zealand, no 12 in the UK, no 13 in Canada and number 53 in the USA and I hope I never was number 33 in New Zealand and number 18 in Australia. It is an excellent album which stills sounds great today with great songs written Tim Finn and Neil Finn as well as 2 instrumentals besides from those 2 hit singles and the video clip of I Got You was produced by the ABC which looks great today. The album was one and still is one of Mushroom REcords' biggest selling albums and it is still in the shops somewhere.
