Classic Albums- Wanda Jackson Wanda Jackson
This week's classic album segment I'm looking at the 1958 debut album American rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson called Wanda Jackson. Wanda Jackson had been recording since 1954 which she had been recording with Decca and then in 1956 Capitol Records and had been touring around since 1955 with Elvis Presley who had encouraged to sing rockabilly and also had singles like you cant Have My Love which she did that with Billy Gray in 1954 on Decca and I gotta Know in 1956 on Capitol. The recording of the self titled album occurred between 1957 and 1958 in Hollywood at the Capitol Records Tower which she was in and out of there 6 times and on July 21st 1958 the wanda Jackson album was released but did not chart. It's an great album with songs that still endure to this day and the material on this album ranges from rockabilly, country, blues and pseudo calypso which one of the songs from the album that became an single was Let's Have A PArty which would be become an hit for wanda in 1960 which had Elvis Presley had recorded it in 1957 for Loving you and also Ken Nelson produced the album. Wanda sang great on this album and of course she is still rockin to this day which she will be on tour in Australia next month
