4KQ's First Broadcast May 7th 1947
Just last week at the state lirbary where I do research on music and eventually post paper clippings on Facebook for Brisbane music groups Brisbane rock n roll scene of the 50's and 60's as well as the 70's Brisbane Bands I look through the Telegraph May 1947 on the microfilm and I founded the very first broadcast of 4KQ May 7th 1947 which I put in USB stick. That very first broadcast on 4KQ was at 7pm May 7th 1947 whch started with overtrue by Cliff Reese an Brisbane trumpeter with his 9 star Music Men, Perc Roberts an keyboardist, Joan Liltin Wilton an jazz singer , The Hitzke Brothers an vocal duo, Joe Allen an vibraphone player an messages from well known radio stars Lloyd Berrell, Bettie Dickson, Owen Ainley, Reg Johnstone and Bob Pollard. At 7.25pm Ned Hanlon who was Queensland Premier at the time declared 4KQ opened and Chas Hurndell was the first station manager at 4KQ. The first program on 4KQ was at 7.30pm with Facets Of Fantasy, One Night Stand at 7.45pm with Cliff Reese's Music Men doing Colonel Twozzle and Lieut Twizzle, 8pm with Cabin In The Cotton, 8.30pm with Girl Of My Dreams with Colleen, Perc Roberts, Joe Allen and Cliff Reese's Music Men, 8.45pm with Eight Bells, 9.15pm with Lyrics For Love with the Debonettes an Queensland Ace Vocal Quartet, 9.30pm with In Rhythm with Romance, The Story Behind The Song which was told by Cliff Resse's Orchestra, 10pm with Roamin Cowboy with Smiling Billy Blinkhorn, 10.15pm with Hollywood Musicals, 10.30pm with Things To Come saying about coming programs on 4KQ and at 11pm with Party Dance Programme which finished at midnight. Who would have known from that first broadcast that 4KQ would last 75 years and here we are in 2022 75 years later becoming on one of the top AM stations in Brisbane which it is sadly ending with the station being sold to Sports Entertainment Network which will end at the end of Next month. I thought I post this on my blog for historical reasons as well as people to learn about the start of 4KQ.
