His half Brother Micky Ward(Mark Wahlberg)an 30 year old welterweight boxer in Lowell, Massachusettes who has been the struggling journeyman boxer and who has been living in the shadows of his big brother as has been losing fight after fight. Mick is managed by his mother Alice (Melissa Leo) who is tougher than nails and Dicky serves as his trainer. After his latest fight nearly kills him which he felt frustrated by career and embarrased by his defeat he forms an relationship with former college student and bartender CHarlene Fleming(Amy Adams)and convinces him to do what is unthinkable split from the family, pursue his interests and train without his brother and it get's interesting throughout the movie. It's an superb and a BRILLIANT movie which it's based on a true story and excellent surpeb acting by Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale who is nominated for a Oscar and Amy Adams who is also nominated for a Oscar as well as acting by Melissa Leo, JAck McGee as the father George, Mickey O'Keefe who was a trainer for Micky Ward plays himself, Frank Renzulli as Sal LoNano and others.
