Classic Albums: The Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly and the Crickets

Lets' look at another classic album which this time we are going back to the 1950's rock'n'roll era and it's Buddy Holly and the Crickets with the Chirping Crickets. The Chirping Crickets was the only album Buddy holly recorded with the Crickets and this album was recorded from February 25th-September 28th 1957 which most of it were recorded in Clovis New Mexico and 4 tracks were recorded @ Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City Oklahoma on September 28th 1957. This was also the only album that had the quartet line up of the Crickets with Buddy Holly on guitar and vocals, Joe B Mauldin on bass, Jerry Allison on drums and Niki Sullivan on guitar which he was the group until he left in late 1957 which they then became an trio. The background vocals one most of the tracks were done by an vocal group called the Picks which had the Pickering Brothers John and Bill and Bill Lapham and Gary and Romona Tollett who sang around Lubbock did the background vocals on That'll Be the Day and I'm Looking for Someone To Love with Niki Sullivan and also Larry Welborn played bass on those 2 songs as well. The Chirping Crickets was released on November 27th 1957 which did'nt chart in the USa but it went to no 5 in England and it has really excellent tracks including the 3 hits "That'll be The Day, Oh Boy and Maybe Baby, it's Too Late an Chuck Willis song, 2 songs written by Roy Orbison "An Empty Cup" and You've Got Love, Rock me My baby, send me Some Lovin and others. it's an amazing that even though Buddy Holly's career lasted nearly 2 years the music still endures and this stands out really well after 54 years which it's truly another classic album indeed.
