This Weeks classic album segment is an Australian album from the 60's which it was the 2nd and last studio album for Australian rock group from Adelaide The Twilights and the album is called Once Upon A TWilight. the group who had hits in 1966 and 1967 with Needle In A Haystack, What's Wrong with the way I live, 9.50, Cathy Come Home, Young Girl and many others and who went to England as the result of them winning the Hoadleys Battle of the sounds to try to have an crack internationally but did'nt even though they recorded at Abbey Road Studios where they recorded What's Wrong With the Way I Live, 9.50 and Young Girl recorded this album at Armstrong Studios in Melbourne with David Mackay who had produced the group's first album in 1966 was the producer, roger savage who had worked with the rolling stones, Alan Day and Phillip Webster were the engineers, Graham macLean did the cover design and John Hawker did the orchestrations. the album was released in June 1968 which despite an great review from Ed Nimmervoll the album was an critical sucess despite sales being low but it is one of the great AUstralian albums of the 60s' as well as being the one of the best psych pop albums. and it was not long after that the group disbanded in 1969 with Glenn Shorrock and Terry britten going on to greater sucess Glenn went to form Axiom with Brian Cadd and later huge international success with the Little River Band and Terry going an to an successful career as an songwriter and producer writing international hits for Tina Turner,CLiff Richard,Michael jackson and others. it's an Excellent album which it's so good with great songs like Mr nice and Devendra with Terry Britten on lead vocals, Bessemae with Clem"Paddy" McCartney on lead vocals, the title track, Blue Roundabout, and many others with glenn Shorrock sings lead on all the other tracks which holds up very well today. Terry wrote 10 of the tracks on the album with Peter Brideoake the guitarist writing Tomorrow Is Today and drummer Laurie Pryor wrote the Cocky Song. At the time the Twilights were doing an pilot of an show called Once Upon A Twilight with Mary hardy playing the secretary and Ronnie Burns was in the pilot as well and it was going to be an series but never happend due to the withdrawal of the Ford Motor Company and other sponsors could not be found. this album was also one of the first pop albums in Australia to be released on both Mono and Stereo which the cover and packaging looks amazing and also it was the Twilights' greatest recording achievements. this should be among the best AUstralian pop albums of all time and it's an classic which it's still in the shops on CD.
