classic album- From ELvis In memphis by Elvis Presley
This week's classic album segment is the 1969 album by the AMerican King Of Rock'n'Roll Elvis Presley called from ELvis In Memphis. The success of the TV special that Elvis Presley did in 1968 as well as the soundtrack album re-established him as an force in American music after for most of the 60's doing the movies. The recordings of this album at American Sound Studio in memphis,Tennessee from January 13-16 and 20-23 and february 17-22nd 1969 and it was the first time since leaving Sun Records to record for RCA that Elvis recorded in Memphis. the album was released on June 17th 1969 which went to number 13 in the USA, no 2 on the USA country charts, Number 1 in the UK and Norway, no 10 in the Netherlands,no 14 in Germany, number 9 in France, no 10 in germany and number 5 in Australia which went gold and the producers on the album were Chips Morman who owned the American Sound studio that had people like the Box Tops, Dusty Springfield, Bobby Womack, Neil Diamond, Aretha Franklin and others recorded there and Felton jarvis. this album has great stuff with country, pop, rhythm and blues and Blue Eyed Soul and it has the hit single In the Ghetto as well as covers of It Keeps Right on A Hurtin, gentle on My Mind, I'm MOvin, only the strong survive and many others. it's an excellent album which stil sounds great in 2012 as it did in 1969 and Elvis was really at his peak with this album as well as the successful period of his career as he would eventually get back to live performing which he had not done it since 1961. it's hard to believe today it is 35 years since rock'n'roll lost an true icon who forever changed music and the culture and Elvis presley still makes an impact and an influence today as we still hear the great music he made from the 50's up to 1977 which holds up very well and this album holds up very well today which I think it is one of his best albums that he ever made.
