The Secret Garden
Last night I went to Balmoral Cinema with my niece Ani where we saw the Secret Garden and it was my first time going to the movies at night prior to Covid Friday March 13th . It's 1947 Mary Lennox (Dixie Egerickx) is found by the British forces at her parents' home in British India and her parents are killed which she is sent to away to England to stay with her uncle Lord Archibald Craven (Colin Firth) in Yorkshire. She is met by the Craven's house servant Mrs Medlock (Julie Walters) who is strict and firm and orders Mary to stay in her room and not to move around. She meets the house servant Martha (isis Davis) and Mary starts to wander around the forest as well as eventually meets Lord Carven's son Colin (Edan Hayhurst) who is bedridden. Mary continues to wander through the forest and discovers an secret Garden and it gets interesting. It is excellent, very entertaining and touching with great acting by Dixie Egerickx, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Isis Davis, Edan Hayhurst and Amir Wilson who played Dickon. It is directed by Marc Munden and produced by David Heyman and Rosie Alison. It's the 4th film adaptation of the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett as the first movie version was in 1919 which had Lila Lee, 1949 that had Dean Stockwell, Margaret O'Brien, Herbert Marshall, Gladys Cooper and Elsa Lanchester and the 1993 version that had Maggie Smith, Kate Maberly and Heydon Prowse as well as an TV movie version in 1987 and an British TV series version in 1975 for 7 episodes. I have never been an fan of remake of classic movies but if they do it well and different to the others then that's OK and I thought this version was excellent as again this version did it differently and it's great family entertainment as it will be well worth seeing and enjoy. I am giving this 4 stars as it's in the cinemas now so do yourselves an favour and SEE IT which you will be amazed.
