Nightmare Alley
This afternoon I went to the Dendy Cinema Coorparoo to see the movie Nightmare Alley. It's 1939 and Stanton"Stan" Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) burns his home after putting an body in the hole in the Mid West and goes to join the carnival arena which he starts helping out and then works with Clarvoyant Zeena(Toni Collette) and her husband Pete(David Strathairn). He has an liking for performer Molly(Rooney Mara) who approaches her for a two person act away from the carnival and when Pete passes away she accepts his offer which they leave the carnival. Two years later they are in New York which Stan successfully reinvents himself as the Great Stanton with Molly as his assistant doing an psychic act for the wealthy and the elite and during one of the shows it gets interrupted by an psychologist Dr Lillian Ritter (Cate Blanchett) who attempts to expose their code system and also he then hatches an scheme to a con an dangerous tycoon Ezra Grindle(Richard Jenkins) with help from Lilith which gets interesting. It's grippping, FANTASTIC and BRILLIANT with AMAZING and BRILLIANT acting by Bradley Cooper, Toni Collette, David Strathairn, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Richard Jenkins, Mary Steenberg and Willem Dafoe. It is directed by Guillermo del Toro who also did the screenplay with Kim Morgan and produced it with Bradley Cooper and J Miles Dale. I have always said that I have never been an fan of remake of Classic movies that the original was in 1947 that starred Tyrone Power, Colleen Gray, Helen Walker and Joan Blondell and this version is very well made which it is just as good as the 1947 version. I am giving this 4 and an half stars and it's in the cinemas now so do yourselves an favour and SEE IT which you will be impressed and amazed.
