Greazefest 2023
On Sunday August 6th I went to the Redland Showground in Cleveland to attend Greazefest 2023 which I have been going there for 15 years when it was at Souths League Club in Westend. My dad took me to the Bus Stop, waited, caught 250 bus, got off at Cleveland and walk to the showground. Went to the toilet, rang home and saw Jacques who I know from the rockabilly gigs. The first act on stage were the Smokin Firebirds who did an fantastic set doing rockabilly blues which they were FANTATSIC, took photos, saw Nina and her fiance Wayne, bought Coke with No Sugar and drank it. Peaches and the AlphaSonics were the next act which they did an FANTASTIC set doing an mixture of original songs as well as covers by Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Dakota Staton and Lisl really belt the songs so very well with great playing by the guys including Paulie Burke on double bass and Trevor on drums, had Nachos for lunch and drank Coke with No Sugar. Lovejoy Surf came on next which they did an FANTASTIC set doing the instrumentals by the Shadows, The Ventures, the Atlantics, Dick Dale, the Tornados and the Easybeats and towards the end of the set Sabrina came on stage which she sang Call Me and Tainted Love and sounded great, saw Ray, Jen, Tyler and Leanne, saw Kylie and bought an Lovejoy Surf hat as she was selling an Lovejoy Surf shirt and the hat. Kid James came on stage which they did an set of original songs and covers including an Ritchie Valens song, met Lisl from Peaches and the Alpha Sonics which I got photos with her as well as seeing Karen Burke, bought posters and Deke Dickerson CD from the Greazefest stand, took photos, bought an Doors shirt from an shirt stand and had selfies with Kel and Vicky as well as seeing Michael (Kel's husband) and meeting Hollie. left around 2.30pm as the Honey Sliders came onstage doing the Beatles, went to the petrol station, bought Coke with No Sugar, drank it and caught bus to Carindale. Bought records from Rockaway Records, topped Go Card from Newsagent, bought health bar and Coke With No Sugar and walk home. It was FANTASTIC and AWESOME with FANTASTIC music and everything and the atmosphere was FANTASTIC considering there were some rain came during the day but it didn't dampen the day and everyone had an great time as always. AN Big thank you goes to Lori Lee who without her Greazefest would not be what it is and she does it so well getting the bands to come to the festival and also to give everyone an great time as well as an experience that they will never forget. I look forward to Greazefest 2024 and if you have not been there do yourselves an favour and go as you will love it and be impressed by it.
