Classic Albums-Machine Head Deep Purple

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1972 album Machine Head by legendary British hard rock band Deep Purple. The recording of the album was held in Montreux Switzerland at the Grand Hotel in a empty corridor between december 6th-21st 1971 using the Rolling Stones mobile studio and they initially were going to record at the Casino but due to a fire during Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention's performance which was cause by a man who fired a flare gun into the ceiling which would inspired one of the tracks on this album Smoke On The Water. The album was released May 1972 which it went to number 1 in the UK where it stayed for 3 weeks where it stayed in the top 40 for 20 weeks,Australia where it stayed there for 2 weeks, Canada, Germany, Austria, Denmark,France and Yugoslavia and number 7 in the USA where it would stayed in the charts for 2 years and it was produced by the band themselves with the cover design done by Roger Glover and John Coletta, Shephard Sherbell did the photography and MArtin Birch did the engineering. Besides from Smoke On the Water which it's true rock classic today there are great tracks on it including Highway Star and Lazy and the songs were written by all the members. It's a great album with great songs which still endures to this day and holds up so well with great playing by the band with great singing by Ian Gilian and the band were truly at it's peak at that time with the classic line-up with Ian Gilian,Roger Glover,Jon Lord,Ian Paice and Ritchie Blackmore. Deep Purple are still touring and recording to this day and this album is one of the best albums ever made as well as a influence for the early development of the heavy metal genre. It is still in the shops today and if you have not got it be sure to BUY IT which I'm sure you will enjoy listening to it.
