Look Wot I Dun by Don Powell
Look Wot I dun is the autobiography of British drummer and founding member of the British rock group Slade Don Powell. In this book he talks about his upbringing in Bilston, Staffordshire in central England, joining the boy scouts which it was where he got into playing drums, played in his first band called the Vendors who then became the N Betweens then the Ambrose Slade and eventually Slade, began having successful hits in 1971 with Get DOwn and Get With It as they would go on to have a lot of successful hits throughout the 70's, the tragic car crash on July 4th 1973 which he was seriously injured as he suffered from short term memory loss which he still has to this day but his long term is unaffected and his girlfriend was killed, problems with alcohol, financial problems and many others. It is a FANTASTIC and a BRILLIANT book with great stories told by Don honestly and it is a great read. This book is co written with Danish author Lise Lyng Falkenberg who is a friend of Don Powell's has pieced together his life from the interviews with Don himself as well as the extracts from his diaries and comments from people like Gene Simmons(KISS), Francis ROssi(Status Quo), Andy Scott(Sweet) ans Suzi Quatro. Don is now sober which he now lives in Denmark with his adopted family and still tours with Slade to this day which also includes other original member Dave Hill. This book is a must for any Slade fans as well as fans of the 70's music and I am giving this 4 and a half stars in the shops now so do yourself a favour and BUY IT.
