Classic Movies The Miracle Worker (1962)

For this week's classic movies segment let's have a look at the 1962 movie The Miracle Worker. Helen Keller(Patty Duke) who has been blind and deaf since infancy has never seen light, hearing her mother's voice or expressing feelings  but then an 20 year old teacher named Annie Sullivan (Anne Bancroft) coming from Boston who had regained her eyesight and helps Helen through touch which it's the only tool they have in common which leads Helen from fear and isolation to happiness and light and it gets interesting. It's an FANTASTIC movie with FANTASTIC acting by Patty Duke in her Best Supporting Actress Oscar winning role and Anne Bancroft in her Best Actress Oscar winning role along with the other acting performances by Inga Swenson who played the mother who go on to play the German housemaid Gretchen Krause in the American comedy Show Benson from 1979-86, Victor Jory and Andrew Price. It was directed by Arthur Penn who had  directed it on Broadway and both Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft had played those roles also on Broadway from 1959-61 which Patricia Neal played the mother. It's an inspirational and touching  which still holds up very well  to this day and it's an great story. It is still well worth seeing and I'm sure there is an DVD somewhere out there.
