For this week's classic album let's have an look at the 1969 live album At San Quentin by American country singer Johnny Cash. It was recorded at San Quentin Prison February 24th 1969 and it was released June 4th 1969 which went to number 1 in the USA Country Charts and number 1 in the USA pop charts as it went triple platinum, Platinum in Canada and Gold in the UK. From the album it had the hit single A Boy Named Sue which went to number 1 in the US country charts, number 2 in the USA pop charts, number 4 in the UK and number 3 in Australia and the album was nominated for Album Of The Year at the Grammys but the song won an Grammy for Best Male Country Performance. It was filmed for Granada TV in the UK and the album was produced by Bob Johnston. It's an FANTASTIC live album which still sounds great and holds up very well to this day with an great concert atmosphere and was backed with an great band which included rockabilly singer Carl Perkins, his second wife June Carter, the Carter Family and the Statler Brothers. This was his second live album in an prison as the Folsom Prison live album had been released the year before which was an great success and would release 2 more live albums in Prisons in the 70's. I'm sure this album is in the shops somewhere and do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be amazed.
