Classic Albums On The Border by the Eagles

For The Classic Album segment with the recent passing of Randy Mesiner member of the Eagles and before that Poco I thought I would do an tribute to him by doing the 1974 album by the Eagles On The Border. This is was recorded at Olympic Studios in London and Record Plant Studios in Los Angeles and it was the first album produced by Bill Szymczyk who had produced the James Gang including Joe Walsh who would joined the Eagles the following year, BB King amd the J Geils Band which actually Glyn Johns who produced the first 2 Eagles albums produced 2 tracks on which also Bill took over as there was disagreements betwen the Eagles and Glyn Johns as they want to go to the more rock oriented sound. It was also the first album that had Don Felder as an member and from the album had the 3 hit singles Already Gone written by Jack Tempchin and Robb Stranlund(number 32 USA), James Dean written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey, JD Souther and Jackson Browne (number 77 USA) and The Best of My Love written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey and JD Souther(number 1 in the USA which the Eagles' first number 1 Song) . The rest of the tracks had 1 song written by Randy Mesiner called Is It True, Ol 55 written by Tom Waits, Midnight Flyer written by Paul Crat with Randy Meisner on lead vocals, My Man written and sung by Bernie Leadon which was an tribute to Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers member Gram Parsons who passed away September 19th 1973 which Bernie did an stint in the Flying Burrito Brothers, the title Track On The Border written by Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Glenn Frey, You Never Cry Like A Lover written by Don Henley and JD Souther and Good Day IN Hell written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey. The album was released March 22nd 1974 which went to number 17 in the USA, number 28 in the UK, number 27 in Australia, number 3 in Holland and number 12 in Canada. It is an great album with great songs which has stood the test of time and just as good today as it did back then which you can never get tired of those songs as they are still getting played on the radio and also the sound on the album is changing from the country rock sounds from the Eagles and Desperado albums to the sound that Eagles would go on to that would lead to great success with Hotel California.
