Queen Of The Dancehalls Cloudland Ballroom in Brisbane 1939-82 is an book about one of the popular venues in Brisbane for many years the Cloudland Ballroom which it's written by James Lergessner. In this book he talks about the origins of the venue which had began as Luna Park in Bowen Hills in 1940 which during the war was used by the American Servicemen, becoming Cloudland Ballroom by 1947, Laurence Oliver and Vivien Leigh's visit in 1948, ballroom dances, fancy dress school formals, people sitting in for exams, rock n roll shows including Buddy Holly who performed there with jerry Lee Lewis, Paul Anka, Jodie Sands and Johnny O"Keefe and the Dee Jays on February 3rd 1958 as well Ivan Dayman who managed acts like Normie Rowe,Tony WOrsley and the Blue Jays etc turned into an mega live music venue, the markets, the demolishing of the venue on November 7th 1982 and many others. It's an AWESOME and an BRILLIANT book with great stories as well as people remembering their time @ Cloudland and James who I have met twice does an great job putting this book together and I truly LOVE it this book. It's been nearly 31 years since this great venue got knocked down but at least for the memories for those who went to the ballroom to see the shows as well as the dances lives on and this book is an must for any music fans in Brisbane which I am sure you will be impressed as bring back memories for those who live in those eras. I give this 5 stars and it's not in the shops so you have to email jim to get this book.
