Classic Albums-A Night At The Opera by Queen 1975
For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1975 album by british rock group Queen called A Night at the Opera. The recording of that album was at Sarm,Roundhouse,Olympic,Rockfield,Scorpio, Trident and Lansdowne Studios between August and November 1975 and it was released on November 21st 1975 which it went to number 1 in the Uk which it debuted at number 1,New Zealand, Australia and Holland, number 2 in Canada, number 4 in Norway and the USA, number 5 in Germany, number 9 in Austria and Japan,number 10 in Sweden and number 16 in France. The album was by the band themselves and Roy Thomas Baker with Mike Stones being the executive engineer, Gary Lyons also did the engineering,John Harris did the equipment supervision and David Costa did the art direction and it was from this album that it had 2 successful hit singles the hugely classic hit Bohemian Rhapsody which it was at number 1 in the UK for 9 weeks,Number 1 In Australia, Ireland and Canada and the number 7 in the UK with You're My best Friend which also the name of this album came from the Marx Brothers' movie from 1935 which the band watched it in the studio complex. It is excellent album with great songs which still endures to this day and besides from those 2 hit songs there is other great ones including 39, I'm In Love With My Car,Love of My Life etc with great playing by John Deacon, Brian May and Roger Taylor and great singing by Freddie Mercury.This album was the most expensive ever recorded at that time but it was a huge success and it has been voted by the public and cited by music publications as one of the groups finest works. A great album indeed and be sure to listen to it as it has great stuff on it.
