I Swear

This afternoon I went to the Dendy Cinema Coorparoo where I saw the movie I Swear which it is based on a true story. It's Scotland 1983 with John Davidson (Scott Ellis Watson) who goes to a secondary school as well as playing soccer is experiencing tics as well as saying swear words but not on purpose but is getting in trouble and attempts suicide and 13 years later John who is now 25(Robert Aramayo) is still living with his mother Heather(Shirley Henderson) which he has tourettes and takes medication which he then meets up with old school friend Murray (Francesco Piacentini Smith) and meets Murray's mother Dorothy (Maxine Peake) who is an medical health nurse which John moves in with Murray's family and with Dorothy's help he gets a job at the local community centre with Tommy(Peter Mullan) but still experiencing his tics and then gets interesting which he starts talking about his experiences with Tourettes. This is from the Telegraph March 18th 1957 and long before known as the Good Times and Great Classic Hits station as well as being an country music station in the 80's 4KQ was one of Brisbane's popular radio stations at the time in the 50's which among their disc jockeys was Hal Grocey who was an American who was also the first to play rock and roll on 4KQ as it was also the first Brisbane radio station to play rock and roll as well as Hal got a mention by BBQ Bob Gallagher on the special about 4KQ called the 4KQ Journey A 75 Year Brisbane icon on Sunday June 26th 2022 and it was repeated on the final night 4KQ ended Thursday June 30th 2022.

This is from the Telegraph March 17th 1976 (50 Years ago today) and until 1992 when it became 4TAB which it is now Radio TAB 4IP was one of Brisbane's top music radio stations at the time in the 70's which besides from being an music station also did shows which they did the Rock Group of the Year shows as it was the final at Festival Hall that had 8 Brisbane rock groups competing who were Cannon, Moonlight, Friends, Borgus, Valhalla, Foxx, Quartermass and Boot Lace for the following prizes $2.250 00 in prizes, an recording contract and an $500.00 of new equipment from Soundstage and it started at 5pm with special guest John Paul Young and the All Star Band.

This is from the Sunday Mail March 15th 1964 and until 1990 when ti became B105 4BK was one of Brisbane's popular radio stations at the time in the 60's which among their disc jockeys were Peter McIntyre who did Sunday Swingalong from 7am until 7.45am, then the Queensland Radio News at 7.45pm, Bill O'Brien did the Sunday Juke Box from 7.50am until 1.30pm which he also did the Queensland Hit Parade from 1pm until 1.30pm and from 1.30pm until 5pm Ron Burton did the Sunday Surfalong which it had Beatles records to be won and also those 3 Sunday shows had Beatles tickets contest to be won as it was the time it was annouced of the Brisbane shows on June 29th and 30th 1964.

Reminders Of Him

This afternoon I went to the Cineplex Cinema at South Bank to see the movie Reminders Of Him. Kenna Rowan (Maika Monroe) is released from jail after serving 7 years for being in car crash that killed her boyfriend Scotty(Rudy Pankow) she is trying to get her life together which she is looking for work but is been turned down but eventually gets a job at the supermarket at GG and encounters Ledger(Tryiq Withers) who was the best friend of Scotty's as well as an owner of the local bar which Kenna starts to have a liking for him but he knows who she is and won't let her see her daughter Diem who has been living with her parents Patrick (Bradley Whitford) and Grace (Lauren Graham) and then things starts to get interesting. It is FANTASTIC, very impressive and very entertaining with excellent acting by Maika Monroe, Rudy Pankow, Tryiq Withers,Bradley Whitford and Lauren Graham and it is directed by Vanessa Caswill and produced by Colleen Hoover, Lauren Levine(both also did the scr...

This is from the Telegraph March 14th 1960 and now the classic hits station here in Brisbane 4BH was one of Brisbane's popular radio stations at the time in the early 60's which on the breakfast show that was on between 5am until 8am there was a segment called Battle of the Ages which had disc jockey Russ Callow and well known Australian singers who were around at the time which the next day (March 15th) iconic Australian rock singer Col Joye was on the Battle of the Ages segment and also on the same day appeared at the Record Hop at City Hall between 12pm til 2pm.

This is the memoir of Australian music executive Amanda Pelman and in this book talks about her upbringing in Melbourne, getting into music early, working for Polygram, went to London where she worked for Jaegar, went back to Australia where she worked for Mushroom Records, worked for Melodian Records, working for Michael Chugg, her 4 marriages including Brian Cadd, working with Kylie Minogue, Dire Straits, Billy Thorpe, Indecent Obession and many others. It's FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with amazing stories as well as very impressive and very entertaining which it is well worth a read and Michael Chugg who is the music promoter did the Foreword for the book. Amanda is now in Paris where she's been there since 2021 and this is a must for Australian music fans which I give it 5 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed.

4BK Top 40 March 1982

This is from the Telegraph March 11th 1982 and this was the 4BK top 40 charts with Soft Cell at number 1 with their version of the Gloria Jones song Soft Cell, Moving Pictures at number 2 with What About Me, Lindsey Buckingham at number 3 with Trouble which was from the Law and Order album and Pete Shelley at number 4 with Homosapien. The new entries in the charts that week were Hall and Oates at number 31 with I Can't Go For That (He Can Do), Mike Post at number 32 with Theme From Hill Street Blues which was from the iconic American TV show of the same name and AC/DC at number 40 with Let's Get It Up and besides from Moving Pictures and AC/DC the other Australian acts in the charts were Olivia Newton John twice with Make A Move On Me at number 14 and Physical at number 37, Men At Work at number 23 with Down Under, Cold chisel at number 25 with You Got Nothing I Want and Colleen Hewett at number 36 with Gigolo.

This is from the Telegraph March 10th 1964 and now the talk back station as it is the only commercial one here in Brisbane 4BC was one of Brisbane's top music radio stations at the time in the 60's which among their disc jockeys was Johnny James who had been with the station since 1954 was doing the Top 40 Breakfast Show which was on daily and also there was a cash competition called Who Said That which it the listener knew they would 1 Pounds (2 dollars) or more.

This is from the Telegraph March 9th 1957 and now the classic hits station here in Brisbane 4BH was one of Brisbane's popular radio stations at the time in the 50's which their shows that was broadcast on this day in 1957 which it was on Saturday were at 6.3pm Memories of Mo, at 7pm the Hardy Family, at 7.30pm the Rola Show, at 8pm Bob Dyer's Pick A Box which had been on radio since 1948 but the TV series had just started the week before, The Singer Show which was hosted by Jack Davey was on at 8.30pm and at 9pm the Rock n Roll Show.

This afternoon I went to the Events Cinema Garden City where I saw the documentary about the legendary Australia band Mental As Anything and in it has interviews with members Martin Plaza, David Twohill, Reg Mombassa and Pete O'Doherty, archival interviews with Greedy Smith, Neil Finn, Greedy's brother Stewart Smith, Colin Hay(Men At Work), Jane Gazzo (Australian music writer), Dave Graney and others as well as talking about their formation in the 70's, playing around the Sydney music scene, began recording for Regular which achieve great success with hit singles including The Nips Are Getting Bigger, Come Around, If You Leave Me Can I Come Too, Bersek Warriors, Live It Up and many others as well as albums including Get Wet, Expresso Bongo, Cats and Dogs and Fundamental As Amnything, going to America as well as Europe, outside projects and many others. Solo Mio

This afternoon I went to the Events Cinema in the city to see the movie Solo Mio. Matt Taylor(Kevin James) who is an art teacher proposes to Heather(Julie Ann Emery) and are about to have their wedding in Italy but on the day Heather doesn't turn up which Matt finds the note which he is devastated and he tries to contact and find her but is unable which he goes on a tour for married couples where he meet Julian (Kim Coates) and his wife Meghan (Alyson Hannigan) and Neil (Jonathan Ruhme) and his wife Donna(Julee Cerda) who is a therapist and both couples are having issues. While dining at the local cafe Matt meets Gia(Nicole Grimaudo) who owns the cafe and shows him around the city which they form a connection and it gets interesting. It is excellent, very funny and very entertaining with excellent acting by Kevin James who was also one of the writers, Alyson Hannigan, Kim Coates, Jonathann Ruhme, Julee Cerda, Nicole Grimaudo and Andrea Bocelli and also Ed Sheeran does an apperan...
