Classic Albums: Who's next by the Who.

After making the highly successful album "Tommy" an rock opera about an boy who was deaf dumb and blind who became an leader of a messianic movement in 1969 British rock band the WHO were going to do an follow up called Lifehouse. It was songwriter and guitarist Pete Townshend's idea and it was going to be an concept work work of multiple dimensions an big budget feature film, an theater event, double album, song cycle, concert performance piece and general purpose statement about youth, modern society, spiritual harmony and the future of rock'n'roll and did the shows @ the Young Vic from January-April 1971 but the idea for Lifehouse was abandoned. The who went to New york in march to start recording songs for the album at the Record Plant in New York with manager Kit Lambert but these recordings were rejected and went back to London to record with Glyn Johns. the recordings for Who's Next began in may 1971 @ Stargroves and eventually Olympic Studios which lasted until june. the album was released on August 14th 1971 which was number 1 in the UK and no 4 in the USA and it went Gold and eventually triple Platinum by 1993. This album had 2 hit singles "Behind Blue Eyes" and the classic "Won't Get Fooled Again and also had brilliant tracks including My Wife written by John Entwistle which was not in the Lifehouse project, baba O'Reily which had pete townshend playing the Synthesizer and Dave Arbus who was from the band East Of Eden played violin, the song is over, Going Mobile, Love Ain't for Keeping and others. It's an excellent album and brilliant as well and this album is one of the best albums the Who ever made along with Tommy and also the band were really at their creative peak in the early 70's. It's hard to believe it's 40 years ago this year when this album was released and it's stands very and still sounds as good today in 2011 as it was in 1971.
