Classic Albums-Rubber Soul The Beatles

This Week's classic album segement we are looking at the 1965 album by the Beatles Rubber Soul. By 1965 the Beatles were one of the top groups in the world at that time having had successful hit singles and albums as well doing doing 2 Movies A Hard Days Night and Help as well as touring the world including Australia and NEw Zealand in 1964 as well as AMerica. The recording of the album that became Rubber Soul commeneced on OCtober 18th and eventually finished with the final production and mix down on November 15th. Rubber Soul was released on December 3rd 1965 in England where it went to number 1 on December 19th where it stayed there for 8 weeks and December 6th in the USA which went to number 1 on January 8th 1966 where it stayed there for 6 weeks. this album signified the changes in the group's music as they were starting to experiment with different sounds like the sitar which George Harrison played it on Norwegian Wood as getting into the Indian stuff, hammond organ played by Ringo on I'm Looking through You as well as You Won't See Me played by Mal Evans who was the Beatles road manager at the time as well as Paul McCartney playing playing Fuzz Bass on Think For Yourself and the lyrics were also changing that went from the pop stuff to She Loves You, From me To You, Please Please Me, I Want To Hold Your Hand to songs that were becoming expressive, poetic, thoughtful like Nowhere Man, In My Life, Michelle and others. This is an BRILLIANT album which holds up very well today with great songs besides from the Lennon-McCartney stuff George Harrison contributed with 2 songs which includes if I Needed Someone and an great cover which photographer Robert Freeman did the photography. This album also inspired Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys to do an album that would compete with it that was to become Pet Sounds and the Beatles were at their creative peak which this album was the start of an creative period which led to the next album Revolver which I will review it sometime in the future and sgt Pepper which I had reviewed it last year. I love this album which it's one of my favourite albums and it still in the shops somewhere in the world.
