This is from the Courier Mail March 7th 1964(60 years ago today) and this is the 4BK Top 40 charts with the Beatles at number 1 with the double sided hit I Saw Her Standing There/Love Me Do, The Beach Boys at number 2 with Hawaii which was from the Surfer Girl album, Lesley Gore at number 3 with the double sided hit You Don't Own Me/Run Bobby Run and the Dave Clark Five at number 4 with Glad All Over. New entries in the charts week were The Searchers at number 16 with their version of the Jackie De Shannon song Needles and Pins which was written by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono, the Beatles with Tony Sheridan at number 23 with My Bonnie wghich they had recorded it in 1961 in Germany, Jimmy Little at number 28 with One Road written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, Rob EG at number 30 with Carmen, Acker Bilk at number 31 with the Harem, Al Martino at 33 with I Love You More and More Every Day, Pete Seeger at numbr 36 with Little Boxes and Cilla Black at number 38 with her version of the Dionne Warwick song Anyone Who Had A Heart. Besides from Rob EG and Jimmy Little the other Australian acts on the charts that were Little Pattie at number 19 with Stompin at Maroubra/He's My Blonde Headed Stompie Wompie Real Gone Boy written by Jay Justin, Digger Revell and the Denvermen at number 20 with My Little Rocker's Turned Surfie written by Johnny Devlin with backing vocals by the Flanagans and Jimmy Hannan at number 22 with Beach Ball which was an cover of the City Surfers song that had Roger McGuinn before the Byrds, Bobby Darin and Terry Melcher with Roger then Jim wrote the song with Frank Gari and having been at number 1 and 23 The Beatles were at number 5 with She Loves You, number 6 with I Want To Hold Your Hand and number 9 with Twist and Shout, Jody Miller at number 10 with He Walks Like A Man, Dusty Springfield at number 12 with I Only Want To be With You, The Rip Chords at number 15 with Hey Little Cobra, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes at number 26 with their version of the Contours song Do You Love Me, Kathy Kirby at number 32 with Secret Love and Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs at number 39 with Daisy Petal Pickin.
