This is from the Telegraph August 9th 1968 and this is the 4BH Top 40 with Richard Harris at number 1 with the song written by Jimmy Webb MacArthur Park, The Irish Rovers at number 2 with the double sided hit The Orange and the Green/Whiskey On A Sunday, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap at number 3 with the song written by Jerry Fuller who has passed away Lady Willpower and Donovan at number 4 with Hurdy Gurdy Man. Among the Australian and New Zealand acts on the chart that week were The Virgil Brothers including ex Loved Ones member Rob Lovett and Peter Doyle at number 6 with Temptaion Bout' To Get Me, The Iguana at number 15 with California My Way, John (Johnny) Farnham at number 16 with the double sided hit I Don't Want To Love You(cover of the Everly brothers song) and Jamie written by hans Poulsen, John Rowles at number 19 with Hush Not A Word To mary, The Easybeats at number 20 with Land Of Make Believe, Pastoral Symphony at number 24 with Love Machine, the Masters Apprentices at number 33 with Brigette and the Groove at number 38 with What Is Soul. It is on this day today also in 1968 that American folk trio Peter Paul and Mary played at the Festival Hall in Brisbane and Alan Hart who was one of 4BH's disc jockeys was on the air playing the Top 40 Monday to Friday from 2pm-4pm and 7-9pm, Saturday from 9am until 1.30pm and Sundays 6am until 9am and 1pm until 4.45pm.
