Good Old Days of Rock and Roll Show @ Redlands Performing Arts Centre
Last night I went to the Good Old Days of Rock and Roll show @ the Redlands Performing Arts Centre that had legendary Australian music legends Little Pattie, Jade Hurley, Lucky Starr and Digger Revell and New Zealand music legend Dinah Lee which it was my second time seeing the show as I saw it @ QPAC on Sunday June 4th last year. I caught the bus to Cleveland, went to the Cleveland Sands hotel, rang Dad, had Nachos for dinner, drank Coke with No Sugar, ate Chocolate Brownie, paid my meal and walk to the Redland Performing Arts Centre. Saw Leigh and her mom Jillane whom I had not seen actually spoken to since about 5 years ago but saw them by sight at the Koala Tavern a year ago when Ross Wilson was performing, bought an CD and poster which was already signed by the performers as they wouldn't come out after the show as they had been sick as I heard a lady telling someone who asking about it, went inside, took a photo and waited. The show started at 7.30pm with the Jade Hurley, Dinah Lee, Little Pattie, Digger Revell and Lucky Starr coming out doing Rockin All Over The World, Jade then sang a few songs including the Roy Orbison Leah, Little Pattie come on next which she did 3 songs as well talking about being in Vietnam when the Battle of Long Tan happened 58 years tomorrow(August 18th), Digger Revell came on next which he did 3 songs including the Willie Nelson song Funny How Time Slips Away which which he walked the audience shaking hands with them, Dinah Lee came on next which she sang 3 songs including 2 of her hits from 1964 and Lucky Starr came on which he did 4 songs including the Billy Field song Bad Habits and the Gary Puckett and the Union Gap song Young Girl which he mentioned that he toured with him as well as telling interesting jokes. There was an interval for 20 minutes which I had a coke with No Sugar to drink, seeing an man from my work, use my mobile and went inside. The second set started with Jade, Digger, Little Pattie, Lucky Starr and Dinah came back on stage doing Clap Your Hands, Lucky Starr and Little Pattie performed Let It Be Me which they sounded great together, Lucky Starr performed 4 songs including his 1962 hit single I've Been Everywhere, Dinah Lee came on stage which she performed 3 songs including her 1964 hit Reet Petite as well as doing Slipping Away as an tribute to Max Merritt who passed away in 2020, Digger Revell came on next doing 4 songs including My Little Rocker's Turned Surfie his 1964 hit, then Little Pattie came on next doing 3 songs including Stompin At Maroubra, Jade Hurley came on next which he did 4 songs including Running Bear and then did Shout which Digger, Pattie, Lucky and Dinah came back on stage to sing with Jade doing it. The show finished after 10.20pm, spoke with Leigh and Jillane, Dad picked me up, stopped at petrol station where I bought an Coke with No Sugar, drank it and came home. It was FANTASTIC and AWESOME which they sounded great and singing great too as Digger, Jade and Dinah are 81, Lucky is 83 and Little Pattie is 75 which they still have it as well as very entertaining giving the audience an show doing the songs that they are well known for which brings back memories for those who were around in the 60's in the era of Bandstand, 6 O'Clock ROck, Sing Sing Sing and many others as well as young people who are discovering the artists for the first time which proves that the interest in Australian music of the 60's is still there and appreciated after all these years. The back up band which included guitarist Russell Bayne were FANTASTIC too with great guitar playing by Russell and thanks to Bob McKinnon for bringing the show back to Brisbane. The show was packed which also proves that singers who are in their 70's and 80's can still pack them in and I look forward to seeing the show again soon which if you have not seen the show please do yourselves an favour and SEE IT which you will be impressed and amazed.
