The Critic

This afternnon I went to the Dendy Cinema Coorparoo to see the movie The Critic. It's London 1934 and Jimmy Erskine (Ian McKellen) who is an theatre critic for the Daily Chronicle gives an negative review about actress Nina Land (Gemma Arteron) who lives with her mother Annabel (Lesley Manville) while David Brooke (Mark Strong) who inherits the newspaper warns Jimmy to tone down the review as well as giving Jimmy an month's notice to leave and is also is unaware that his son in law Stephen Wyler(Ben Barnes) is having an affair with Nina as well as himself having an affair with Nina and then it gets interesting. It is very good and very entertaining with great acting by Ian McKellen, Gemma Arterton, Mark Strong, Lesley Manville, Romola Garai and Alfred Enoch. It is directed by Anand Tucker and is one of the producers with Jolyon Symonds and the late Bill Kenwright known to soapie fans as Gordon Clegg on Coronation Street who passed away last year and also Ian McKellen who is 85 gives one of his best performances that he has given which is to prove that no matter how old you are they keep coming up good roles as well as to prove that you can do it no matter what age you are. I give it 4 stars as it's in the cinemas now so do yourselves an favour and SEE IT which you will be impressed and amazed.
