Keeping the Beat by Barry Whitwam
This is the autobiography of drummer and member of the legendary British rock group Herman's Hermits Barry Whitwam and in this book he talks about his upbringing in Manchester England, losing his brother in 1959, getting his first drum at age 13, playing in groups the Demons and the Wailers, joining Herman's and the Hermits in 1964 which then became Herman's Hermits, achieving success with hits including I'm Into Something Good, Silhouettes, Mrs Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter, I'm Henry The Eighth I Am, No Milk Today, There's A Kind OF Hush and many others, touring the world including America and Australia, encounters with Elvis Presley, The Who, the Animals, The Monkees amongst others, the passing of Lek Leckenby in 1994 and many others. It's FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with FANTASTIC and AWESOME stories as well as very impressive and very entertaing which it is well worth an read going through Barry's journey from Manchester to achieving success on the world stage. Barry is still with Herman's Hermits who are currently touring Australia at the moment as I saw them 2 weeks ago at Kedron Wavell in Brisbane and still playing and sounding great as well as entertaining the audiences after 61 years and let's hope they come back to Australia next year. This is an must for 60's music fans as well as Herman's Hermits fans and I give it 5 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed.
