Russell Morris @ QPAC

On Friday August 22nd I went to QPAC to see legendary Australian singer Russell Morris on his farewell tour which it was my 16th time seeing him live as my very first was nearly 25 years ago at Kedron Wavell on Thursday October 26th 2000 with Jim Keays and Darryl Cotton as Cotton Keays and Morris as it was one of Jim's first show with Darryl and Russell after Ronnie Burns left. I caught bus to South Brisbane from Carindale, went to the Plough Inn, rang Dad, had Steak, Chips and Salad for dinner, drank Pepsi max, went to the NZ Ice Cream Shop where I had a triple Tim Tam Sundae and walk to QPAC. Bought program, went inside and took 2 photos. The show started after 7pm with Russell Morris coming on stage starting off with his 1970 hit Mr America which throughout the 1st performed performed songs from the 60's and 70's as well as tracks from the 2008 album Jumpstart Diary as well as telling stories about being in England and spoke about Brian Cadd who as we all know had a stroke but is going well and there was an interval which I bought Coke with No Sugar and the Jumpstart Diary CD which I got an free Cooler and went back inside. Iconic Queensland Football legend Wally Lewis came on stage to say a few words about Russell Morris as he'll look forward to have long lunches and Russell performed at Wally's recent wedding and then Russell came back on stage performing songs from the blues albums he had out in the 2010's as well as songs in the 80's and late 70's which he tells an story about his encounters with the Hell's angels as well as Ignatius Jones from the Australian band Jimmy and the Boys as well as his 1969 hit Part Three Into Paper Walls and at the end he performed the new song he recently recorded the End of The Beginning as well as the 3 big hits including the iconic song The Real Thing. The show ended after 9.45pm, saw Ray and his wife who I know from rockabilly, went to the bus stop, caught bus to Carindale, Dad picked me and came home. It was FANTASTIC and AWESOME with Russell still sounding great and better than ever at 77 with an AWESOME back up band including John Creech on percussion who came from legendary Australian groups the Mixtures and Bluestone as well the guitarist and saxophone player sounding great. The show was packed and we the audience were entertained as well as singing along to the songs which we had a great time and I am so glad that I got to see Russell perform as it is the farewell shows he is doing as he will not longer tour but will make music and maybe the one offs which I would like to say that he has given us the pleasure to entertain the fans live playing the songs that has stood the test of time and the audience an great time so I would like to say thank you Russell Morris for everything.
