4BK Top 10 June 1964
This is from the Telegraph June 17th 1964 and this was the 4BK top 10 with local performer from Moorooka Billy Thorpe with the Aztecs at number 1 with their version of the Coasters 1959 hit Poison Ivy, Mary Wells at number 2 with the song written by Smokey Robinson My Guy, Bill Haley and His Comets at number 3 with Rock Around the Clock which had been the hit 10 years ago but it was reissued on the Festival label, the Beatles at number 4 with Can't Buy Me Love, Millie at number 5 with My Boy Lollipop which was an cover of the Barbie Gaye song, Elvis Presley at number 6 with the title track from the movie he did with Ann Margaret Viva Las Vegas, Peter Paul and Mary who was in Brisbane 2 weeks before in that month of 1964 at number 7 with Go Tell It On The Mountain, Peter and Gordon at number 8 with the song written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney A World Without Love, The Searchers at number 9 with their version of the Orlons song Don't Throw Your Love Away and Terry Stafford at number 10 with his version of the Elvis Presley song Suspicion. It was 2 weeks before the Beatles arrived in Brisbane for the shows at Festival Hall and the night before on June 16th that Tony Sheridan who had performed with the Beatkes in germany performed at TC's Sound Lounge in the city on ELizabeth Street with Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, Warren Williams and Digger Revell at 6pm and 9pm.
