Tamiami by Bill Haley and His Comets

After acheving hit singles with Decca in the 1950's including Rock Around the Clock, Shake Rattle and Roll, See You Later Alligator, Rip It Up, Razzle Dazzle, Joey's Songs and others Bill Haley and His Comets signed up with Warner Brothers which their first single for them was Candy Kisses as it was originally the A side but the b side Tamiami became the A side instead. Tamiami went to number 101 in the USA but it was more of an success in Australia which went to number 30 in Australia, number 14 in Adelaide, number 8 in Hobart, number 29 in Melbourne and number 28 in Sydney in 1960 and it was written by Mort Garson and Earl Shuman.

Bob Luman American rockabilly and country singer-songwriter who the 1960 hit with Let's Think About Living had an single in 1961 which was an hit in Australia called The Great snow Man which went to number 62 in Australia and number 29 in Brisbane with the b side The Pig Latin Song going to number 35 in Perth which was both written by John B Loudermilk who had success as singer with hits lincluding Sittin On The Balcony and Language Of Love as songwriter writing hits for the Everly Brothers, Johnny Ferguson with Angela Jones, Stonewall Jackson and later for Sue Thompson, The Newbeats, George Hamilton IV etc.

This is the autobiography of legendary American singer-songwriter Rickie Lee Jones and in this book she talks about her upbringing in Chicago and Phoenix, her ancestry, getting into music at an young age, getting an guitar in 1965, having an premonition about her brother's accident, playing in an band called California Blues Band, being an teenage runaway, going to California, working with an band called Easy Money, her relationship with Tom Waits, acheiving success with the single Chuck E's In Love and many others. It is FANTASTIC and BRILLIANT with very impressive and very entertaining stories an FANTASTIC read which it is well worth it. Rickie Lee is still going strong and is starting her American tour in Tuesday March 1st. This is an must for 70's and 80's music fans and I give it 4 and an half stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed.

This is the documentary about the legendary American singer-songwriter and member of the legendary American rock group the Beach Boys and it has interviews with Sir Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Jakob Dylan, Taylor Hawkins, Linda Perry, Don Was, Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin and many others and Brian was being interviewed in the car with Jason Fine going through Los Angeles and the favourite haunts as well as listening to music telling about his brothers, his mental illness, the music, Dr Landy and many others. It is FANTASTIC and BRILLIANT and with great stories and great interviews with Brian telling the stories honestly and it is very entertaning which it is well worth watching it learning about an man who has been on the music scene for 60 years going through the issues he's been through but he is still here and going strong. There is an extra features that has stuff that was not on the DVD and it is FANTASTIC. Brian will be touring the US with legendary American Band Chicago

Right Place Right Time by Bob Gruen

This is the autobiography of American rock photographer Bob Gruen and in this book he talks about his upbringing in New York, got his first camera at age 8, started working for the Great Neck Record newspaper, singing folk music, starting taking photos of rock musicians with Bob Dylan when he went electric at Newport in 1965, his 2 marriages, taking photos and going on tour with Elton John, Kiss, Ike and Tina Turner, David Bowie, New York Dolls, Bay City Rollers, The Sex Pistols, Alice Cooper etc, his friendship with John Lennon and Yoko Ono and many others. It is FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with AWESOME and Entertaining stories and it is well worth an read about an exciting time in rock and roll. This is an must for rock music fans and I give it 5 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you'll love it.

This is the new album by legendary Australian rock band Midnight Oil which was released on Friday. The album was recorded in Sydney At Rancom St & Oceanic Studio and the songs on it are all original written by the members which Jim Moginie wrote 5, 3 with Rob Hirst, 2 with Peter Garrett and 2 written by Peter Garrett himself and legendary Australian singer Kamahl does the spoken word on 1 track and also sax player Andy Bickers played on 2 tracks. It is AWESOME ROCKIN and BRILLIANT with FANTASTIC songs and an Fantastic sound with great singing by Peter Garrett who is sounding great and singing great as ever. The band are touring Australia starting next Wednesday and let's get the album into the charts. This is an must for Midnight Oil fans and I give it 5 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will love it and be impressed.

This is an collaborative album by American country singer Willie Nelson with his 4 children Lukas, Micah, Amy and Paula and sister Bobbie and this was recorded in Austin Texas at Pendernales Studios . The songs on the album are covers of songs by George Harrison All Things Must Pass, Hank Williams song I Saw The Light, Why Me the Kris Kristofferson song, the gospel song In The Garden as well as reinterpretations of songs that Willie recorded inlcuding Family Bible that Willie had an number 92 US country hit with in 1980 and before that Claude Gray in 1961 which went to number 7 in the US country charts. It is an excellent album with great songs and an great singing which his son Lukas sings lead on 2 songs and Micah sings on Why Me and Willie priduced the album with Steve Chadie. This is an must for Willie Nelson fans and I give it 4 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed.

This is the new book by drummer and member of the legendary American all girl band The Go Go's Gina Schock and in this book she talks about starting playing bass, guitar and eventually drums, playing in bands Scratch N Sniff and Edie and The Eggs, moving to Los Angeles from Baltimore, joining the Go Go's, playing LA including Club 88 and Hong Kong Cafe, began recording for IRS Records which they would achieve success with hit singles including Our Lips Are Sealed, Vacation and We've Got the Beat and albums including Beauty and the Beat and Vacation, touring the B-52's, Madness and the Rolling Stones, her heart surgery and many others as well as contributions from people like her bandmates, Jodie Foster and Dave Stewart. This afternoon I went to the South Bank Cinema to see the movie Marry Me. Kat Valdez(Jennifer Lopez) who is an singer is planning to marry Bastian (Maluma) on stage before an live audience and before they were about to get married she discovers that Bastian has been cheating on her and instead choosing to marry an total stranger carrying the Marry Me sign named Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson) who is an school teacher and father of a daughter named Lou (Chloe Coleman) and there are forces to separate the unlikely couple they have to decide that having come from 2 different worlds can find true love which gets interesting. It is excellent, very funny and very entertaining with excellent acting by Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Maluma, Chloe Coleman, John Bradley and Sarah Silverman. Bob Richards(Bobby Rich) The Planets(Brisbane)

On Sunday Brisbane rock and roll lost an pioneer from the early days of rock with the passing of drummer and member of legendary Brisbane groups The Hucklebucks and the Planets Bob Richards aka Bobby Rich. He went to Ashgrove State School and Brisbane Grammar School and also had played in his first band while he was in high school. He played with the Hucklebucks along with Allan Reed, John Reid, John Pickering aka Johnny Pal and Brian Gagen before He, Brian, Johnny and John left the group and formed the group known as the Planets which was Rob who came up with the name which they played their very gig at the Nundah Memorial May 22nd 1959 which the line up was Johnny, John, Brian, Bob and Rob Tonge on guitar. Throughout their 6 year run as Brisbane's top rock and roll group the Planets ran their own shows which they played around Brisbane , Gold Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Warwick and many other places and played at Venues including Cloudland, Railway Institute, Festival H

Yesterday I went to the Balmoral Cinema to see the movie Belfast. It's 1969 and Buddy(Jude Hill) who lives with his mother (Caitriona Balfe) and brother Will(Lewis McAskie) in Belfast as well as his grandparents Granny (Judi Dench) and Pop(Ciaran Hinds) while Buddy's father Pa(Jamie Donan) works in England . a group of Protestants stage a riot on the street Buddy lives attacking homes to intimidate the Catholics and in response to it the people set up an barricade to prevent their return. Buddy has an liking for an Catholic girl named Catherine (Olive Tennant) and local criminal figure and sectarian rabble rouser Billy Clanton(Colin Morgan) wants Pa to join the cause but refuses which leads Billy to be aggresive. The family are struggling to pay off debts and Pa wants the family to move away to live in Vancouver or Sydney which gets interesting.
