This is the autobiography of musician Jose McLaughlin and in this book he talks about his upbringing in Liverpool, the passing of his mother at age 6, starting playing piano at an young age, the music scene in Liverpool, playing in groups including The Joe Ray Me Trio, The Modern Blues Quartet, The Dials and The Elastic Band, joining Gerry and the Pacemakers in the 70's, moving to Australia in 1974, playing with New Dream, Pantha and Daniel, moving to the Gold Coast in the 80's where he played with the Executives, moving to Brisbane, working with Duane Eddy, The Doobie Brothers, Broderick Smith, Buddy England, Bo Diddley and many others. It is FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with FANTASTIC, impressive and very entertaining stories and an FANTASTIC read which it well worth reading going on the journey from Liverpool to Australia. Last weekend when I was on Facebook I saw the news about the passing of singer and member of the legendary Irish singing group the Bachelors Con Cluskey but it was not mentioned on the newspapers websites until the other day which I shared one of them one my Facebook. The Bachelors were the first Irish group to have an number 1 in the British charts and they started out at the the Harmonichords in 1957 with brothers Con and Dec Cluskey and John Stokes which they were playing mouth organs and played around Dublin. They played with the Radio Eireann Light on air as well as playing in the Theaters around Dublin and appeared on Opportunity Knocks hosted by Hughie Green on Radio Luxemburg. It was 30 years ago this year when Rolling Stones guitarist and songwriter Keith Richards released his second solo album Main Offender which was the follow up to the 1988 album Talk Is Cheap album with his own band The X Pensive Winos and the album was recorded in New York and California from March 18th-September 6th 1992. It was produced by Keith, Steve Jordan and Waddy Watchel and it was released October 19th 1992 which went to number 45 in the UK, number 99 in the USA and number 96 in Australia. It is reissued again as I am reviewing the double CD edition which the first CD has the original album tracks and on the second CD has an live recording at the Town and Country Club in London England December 17th-18th 1992 which he performed some tracks from the album as well as songs from the Talk Is Cheap album and 3 Rolling Stones songs. On Wednesday morning I was on the computer on Facebook before going to work and I saw on Facebook that legendary American Bobby Rydell passed away which was shock to see that considering he was back on the road after Covid doing shows through the US which I couldn't believe it . Bobby Rydell who was born Robert Louis Ridarelli in Philadelphia April 26th 1942 started performing as an child appearing on the Paul Whiteman's TV Teen Club which he appeared on it for the next few years and played around the Philadelphia area which by then he changed his name to Bobby Rydell. He had his first hit single in 1959 on Cameo Records with Kissin Time which for the next over 4 years would have successful hit singles including We Got Love, Swinging School, Sway, Volare, Good Time Baby, I wanna Thank You, The Cha Cha Cha, Forget Him written by Tony Hatch and many others and made appearances on TV including American Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark, The Red Skelton Show, The Ed Sullivan Sho

On Monday MArch 28th I was looking on Facebook using the I Pad when I saw the news about the passing of bass player and member of the legendary Brisbane group the Avengers Garth Austin which was very sad and an sad loss to the Brisbane music scene and to his family. Garth had played with an band called Neil and the Vipers which played around locally and in 1964 he joined the band the Tropics who would become the Avengers when he replaced original bass player Terry Walcott when I remember Garth telling me that he had seen an advert about the band and was impressed with the sound. He then recommnded Roger Jellicoe who was in the Endeavours to the Avengers when Keith Ryan who was the original guitarist left in 1965 and that line of Ross Bentley, Graeme Rabnott, Mick Monaghan, Garth and Roger lasted until 1966 which they played at the 4BC spectacular with the Easybeats, Tony Worsley and the Fabulous Blue Jays and MPD Limited as well as the other Brisbane groups The Feelgoods, The

Today I went to the movies at Dendy Cinema Coorparoo to see the movie The Duke which it's based on an true story. It's 1961 and Kempton Bunton(Jim Broadbent) who is an taxi driver and who had been campaining for pensioners get free TV steals the portrait of the Duke Wellington done by Goya from the National Gallery in London and sending ransome notes saying that he will bring them back if the Government listens and then it gets interesting. It is Fantatsic, very funny and very entertaining with great acting by Jim Broadbent, Helne Mirren who plays his wife Dorothy, Fionn Whitehead, Matthew Goode and Anna Maxwell Martin. It was directed by Roger Michell and produced by Nicky Bentham. it is an feel good film and is an well worth movie to watch with great acting which I think it's one of the finest performances that Jim Broadbent has done and any movie that has Helen Mirren in it does it so very well.
