Classic Movies- The Misfits 1961

 For the classic movies segment let's have a look at the 1961 movie The Misfits. In Reno Nevada Roslyn Tabor (Marilyn Monroe) is getting an divorce from her husband Raymond(Kevin McCarthy)  and lives with her landlady Isabelle (Thelma Ritter( gets friendly with an aging cowboy named Gaylord (Gay) Langland (Clark Gable) and his best friend an driver named Gudio (Eli Wallach)  which they both have a liking for her and move to Gudio's half finished desert home which they live together . She also meets Perce Howland (Montgomery Clift) who is an ex-rodeo rider and they start up an business capturing wild horses which gets interesting. It's an FANTASTIC movie  with great acting by Clark Gable, marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, Eli Wallach and Thelma Ritter with John Houston directing the film and Arthur Miller doing the screenplay who was married to Marilyn Monroe at that time but were about to get divorce. Now and Then Paul Stanley's Soul Station

 This is the new album by Kiss founding member and musician Paul Stanley with  his own band Soul Station and it has covers of soul songs including Just My Imagination, Baby I Need Your Loving, Ooh Baby Baby as well as 5 original songs including I Do and I Oh I. It was recorded at Dave's Room and The Nook Studio and it was produced by Paul Stanley himself . It is an FANTASTIC and an BRILLIANT album with great songs as well as an great soulful sound as well as great playing by the Soul Station with an great soulful vocal performance by Paul Stanley which it is great to see and hear him doing something different which it's an great thing.  Paul will be here in Australia this year with KISS for the Farewell tour. Let's hope this album will do very well and it should be in the charts which will be great to see and this is an must for KISS fans as well as Paul Stanley fans  which I give it 4 and an half stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT whic

Crisis

 This afternoon I went to the South bank Cinema where i saw the movie Crisis and  Jake Kelly (Armie Hammer) is an agent going undercover as an drug dealer arranging an multi cartel Fentanyl smuggling operation, Claire (Evangeline  Lee) an architect  who had an ex addict herself  whose son David dies from an drug overdose and goes to Canada to track the person who was involved and Tyrone Brower (Gary Oldman) an university professor is battling unexcepted revelations about his research employer  which it's an drug company with deep government influence and it gets very interesting. It's FANTASTIC, gripping and Brilliant with top and Brilliant acting by Armie Hammer, Evangeline Lee, Gary Oldman, Greg Kinnear, Michelle Rodriguez and Lily Rose Depp. It's directed by Nicholas Jarecki who also produced it with Cassian Elwes  and did the screenplay as well. I give it 4 and an half stars and it's currently in the cinemas so do yourselves an favour and SEE IT which you will be gr

Walking With Ghosts by Gabriel Byrne

 This is the memoir of Actor Gabriel Byrne and in this book he talks about his upbringing in Dublin Ireland, going to England to an seminary when he was 11, doing odd jobs including messenger boy and  plumber , joining an amateur drama group at the suggestion of an friend, the loss of his sister Marian and many others. It's excellent, impressive and very entertaining with great stories and it's an enjoyable  and impressive read too. This is an must for movie fans and I give it 4 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed. 

Doug Parkinson

 On Monday night I was at home in my room using my I pad and I saw on Facebook  that Doug Parkinson has passed away which at first I thought it can't be true and then i checked which eventually it was true that he has passed away and it was an shock and surprised as he was due to do an show on Thursday in Adelaide as it would have been his first show since Covid. I had heard of Doug Parkinson for years on TV as radio like 4KQ which I heard Dear Prudence  and the first time I saw him was with Max Merritt at Kedron Wavell with Mum Friday May 17th 2002 which it was FANTASTIC as he did the 2nd set as Max did the first set as well as some songs together and got Doug's autograph. The second time I saw him which again with Max at Kedron Wavell Sunday afternoon September 14th 2003  which I remember that very well as I came home from the Gold Coast with Mum, Dad and Heath early that day as well as seeing Bob from the Pay Office at work. Three Legends In Concert @ Redlands Performing Arts Center

  Last Friday March 12th I went to the Redlands Performing Arts Center to the show Three Legends In Concert  starring Normie Rowe, Dinah Lee and Jade Hurley  which the last time I  was at RPAC was nearly 3 years ago on Friday August 17th 2018 seeing Hermans Hermits and last time I saw Normie Rowe was at the Go Show Concert @ QPAC Thursday May 2nd 2019, Dinah Lee @ the Go Show @ QPAC Saturday July 23rd 2016 and Jade Hurley @ Twin Towns during Wintersun Saturday June 8th 2008 as he was the support act for Johnny Tillotson and The All Stars. I caught the bus from Carindale to Cleveland, had an look for where to go to have dinner which I eventually went to Twelve Boar, had Burger and Wings with chips for dinner, drank Pepsi Max and walk to the RPAC. Waited outside, went inside, checked in, bought CD and Poster, waited, went inside and spoke with an man Ryan from Melbourne and his wife. The show started after 8pm with Normie, Jade and Dinah doing Rockin All Over and then Jade did his own se

Minari

 This afternoon I went to the South Bank Cinema to see the movie Minari.  It's the 1980's and Jacob Yi (Steve Yeun) with wife Monica (Han Ye-ri) and their 2 children David(Alan Kim) and Anne (Noel Kate Cho) move to Arkansas from California  where Jacob hopes to grow Korean produce to give to the vendors in Dallas and he and Monica are working sexing chicks at an hatchery also. Monica's mother Soon-Ja(Youn Yuh-Jung)  coming from South Korea and look after the kids. There is also challenges  including David's heart condition and Jacob is going into difficulties including the well running dry and the vendor cancelling their order as well as the marriage reaching breaking point and then it gets interesting. It's FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB and very entertaining with FANTASTIC and BRILLIANT acting by Steve Teun, Han Ye-Ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Youn Yuh Jung and Will Patton. It was directed by Lee Issac Chung who also did the screenplay and produced by Dede Gardne

 In 1970 Bobby Darin who had an string of  hits in the 50's and 60's like Splish Splash, Dream Lover, Queen of The Hop, Mack The Knife, Beyond the Sea, Things and If I were A Carpenter   whose last top 40 hit was in 1966 with Lovin You had an single on the Direction label in America called Maybe We Can Get It Together   which was not an hit there but in Australia it was released on the Commonwealth United Records label which went to number 96 here  but the b side RX-Pyro (Prescription Fire) was the A side in Brisbane and it went to number 18 here. It was released as Bob Darin. 

Sheila by Leif Garrett

 Sheila by Leif Garrett was an cover of the Tommy Roe 1962 hit  and it was from his 1978 album Feel The Need. Sheila was only an hit in Australia which went to number 63 in Australia and it was number 21 here in Brisbane in 1979. If it charted in other Australian cities can anyone let me know please.

 This is the second memoir of British musician and founding of legendary British bands Joy Division and New Order Stephen Morris and in this second book he talks about the New Order period from 1980-2007 which includes touring America, girlfriend Gillian Gilbert joining the group who would become his wife , forming the Other Two another group during one of New Order's hiatuses, using early digital technology, achieving success with albums including  Movement, Power Corruption and Lies, Technique as well as the singles like Blue Monday, Temptation, Confusion and Thieves Like Us, the passing of manager Rob Gretton and many others. It's an FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB book with FANTASTIC, Impressive and very entertaining  and an great great read and it is well worth reading. The group are still around with members Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert and Bernard Sumner  which they had a new song last year called Be A Rebel and will be doing an show in September. This is an must for
